Should I or Shouldnt I??

I am 99% sure that I am buying a G35 Sedan this week. I currently have an 03 Alty and am really happy with it. I took out an 03 G35 for a test drive last week and fell in love......what a car.

My Alty has some zip to it, but these G35's absolutely kick ass. Before I decide on buying it, has anyone had any problems with the G35? Anything I should be concerned about?

any insight would be appreciated!!

About the most serious problem that I have heard about with the G twins is premature brake wear - pads and rotors having to be replaced early. Some more minor complaints about paint chips - though with new EPA mandates for water-based paint, this isn't just a G35 problem - Audis and other cars are running into it as well. Outside of that, the only other issues are minor really (occasional squeaks in some cars, interior is a bit cheesy to some) - but the positives WAY outnumber the negatives - the engine is superb, the handling fantastic, and the looks first class. Reliability has been excellent and value retained among the best.

Get the sedan - you'll love it. The brake problems aren't happening to everyone and when it does, most people are accepting it because the brakes on the coupe and sedan have FANTASTIC stopping power - they have already saved me in my coupe twice in situations where I thought only a Ferrari would have stopped in time!

I noticed that while you have a coupe, you are telling someone else to buy the sedan. What is the reason for this? I only ask because, for practicality, the Sedan fits but for looks, the Coupe is amazing. What's behind a coupe owner recommending the sedan? Thanks

If you mean me ....

Because he is shopping for a sedan? And that's my serious answer - I'm not trying to be a wiseguy. I chose the coupe because I don't need big room in the back seat and frankly, I fell in love with the coupe when I came shopping for the sedan .... hehe. But that doesn't mean someone who is shopping for a sedan is going to have me recommending something else - the G35 sedan was, after all, CO-car of the Year for Motor Trend in 2003 along with its' brother the coupe. I have driven the sedan the last several times as a loaner during service for my coupe and it is a fine car.

As to looks - that's a personal matter. Most people do like the coupe more, but not everyone. I still think the sedan looks quite good, it's just that the coupe is simply stunning.

The only other sedan I would consider at a similar price is the new TL from Acura, but I wouldn't consider it too much. Even though it has more HP than in the past and the 6MT will give a G sedan 6MT a run for its' money - it's still not as nice-looking (I don't like the 'gash' on the side of the Acura) and it remains a front wheel driver. That eliminates it from my consideration since a true sports sedan is RWD, or at the very least, AWD like the new G35x (the AWD G sedan.) The Acura TL does have a nicer interior and better NAV, but not that much nicer that it would make me put up with torque steer and the missing out on all that tail-happy fun that you get with a true RWD car!

And that last part answers Swedish' question - the G35x is an all-wheel drive G35 sedan. It has Nissan's advanced ATTESA all-wheel drive system that intelligently varies wheel traction from 100% rear wheel to 50-50 between front and rear. The negative (for some) is that it doesn't come in a manual. But if you want the fun of the VQ engine and the sedan looks and handling with the advantage of AWD for bad weather - you can't beat the G35x! The 3-series all-wheel drive is the closest competitor, but it's a LOT more expensive.

Thanks for the info. We think alike. I went into the dealership the other day interested in a Sedan more than a Coupe. Upon entrance, a diamond graphite Coupe with 20 inch chrome wheels (baring the Infiniti logo) and Aero Kit w/spoiler was on the showroom floor. Even after driving the 6MT sedan, all I could really think about is that Coupe. The practicality (longevity) of 4 doors and the fact that I can get a better deal (by about $2000) on a sedan may still win out in the end.

What kind of service did your coupe need that you needed a loaner?
