911 turbo vs 911 gt2

Is the gt2 REALLY worth the money? it costs shit loads more than the turbo and yet it nearly looks and performs nearly the same way!
911 gt2 0-100 km/ph in 4.2 seconds
911 turbo 0-100 km/ph in 4.3 seconds

considering the turbo is a 4WD and the gt2 being RWD, I actually consider the turbo better because in the long run the turbo would have better acceleration if it had more power.

The GT2 is a far superior car in terms of performance in comparison to the Turbo. I can't stand people who are acceleration junkies who read acceleration figures to judge how superior a car is. The GT2 the not only the fastest modern 911, it's the fastest 911 Porsche has ever produced. It is faster than both the GT3 and Turbo at most race tracks. The GT2 comes with an adjustable suspension and on top of that, it came with a Clubsport trim not sold in the US, which came with a full rollcage, racing seats, harness, and fire extinguisher. Racey. Plus the GT2 is a harder car to drive at the limit since it does no include traction control where as the Turbo does.

Tetsuo is correct. You should spend more time worrying about a car's handling dynamics rather than obsessing over its dragstrip numbers.

Turbo vs GT2

its true that figures dont say the whole story but in my opinion the turbo is the 911 to go for (especially with powerpack option~450hp), why?

AWD, not every one can manage to "pilot" the GT3 to its limits, AWD makes the rear engined 911 a little more friendly. and especially when driving in wet conditions.

I totally have to agree! After the ten laps around the Nürburgring's Nordschleife, the difference between the two becomes apparent.

I have to disagree with the majority on this one. I used to run a franchise chain of Porsche dealerships, and did so for 17 years, so I've seen many a 911. My best freind ran a race team, in which he was a driver, and he had 3 GT2's 2 seasons ago. They were perfect for the track, and needed little modification.

At the time, I was driving a Turbo Coupe, and he had a Road going GT2. Like you he went for handling and performance, where I went for practicality, and useability. Now this guy knew how to drive, but that didnt stop his GT2 leaving the road in the wet, at 55 Mph and killing him.

I used to drive cross continental in my Turbo, and later in a Turbo Cabrio to germany, once every 2 weeks all year round. I drove through blazing sunshine, heavy rain, and snow, and it never once lost its footing. For the road, the Turbo can't be beaten, but as my freinds team of GT2's proved regulaly, they are the best on the track.

Re: 911 turbo vs 911 gt2

Of course both vehicles are pipe dreams for me right now.... From what I understand though, for the driver with moderate skill, and the occasional track event, the 911 Turbo is more realistic to drive vice the ridiculous power and RWD of the GT2 with no PSM.... Again, not from experience, just what I have been exposed to. I think GT Purely Porsche or Excellence did a comparison article some months back.

Thats correct. What ever you have been exposed to is obviously some good quality infomation. In every day use, with a keenish driver behind the wheel, the Turbo and Turbo S are more than enough. Its only the track where the GT's really shine.
