My buddy just got his turbo...

...it's COMPLETELY custom from the ground-up, all the piping, manifolds and everything was custom built by this other local shop that plans on selling kits and used his car as a mule. All my buddy had to was buy/pay for the raw materials and turbo, and the other shop did all the work for free, so it really did not cost him that much.
My friend did the 3-inch exhaust (converted to single) himself at his shop.

That's an air-to-water intercooler that's actually cooling the intake charge. There is also a front mount, but that flows cooling fluid, which it cools, and a water-pump then pumps the cooled liquid into the air-to-water.

This way, there won't be a need to cut anything for a front-mount air-to-air...they just run the coolant hose, which you can see, to the front, which is much easier. The compressed air also has a more direct travel to the manifold.

Here's more:

The car on his lift. That's him on the right, finishing up on his custom-exhaust install:

Sorry for the crappy pics...it's a cheap camera and the lighting wasn't all that great

thats a very interesting cooling setup. heh can't wait for the report of how sick that car is when its done. but why are they making a custom turbo set up? i was walkin around campus one day and i saw a black S2K with a front mount. and i'm like WTF?!?! then i went up for a closer inspection, the thing is turboed. it looked like a actual turbo kit.

well since its a high compression engine, you can run low boost and make the same amount of power as a low compression engine running higher boost.

.

little off topic but does have to do with compression.
somewhere on here I remember someone saying with fuel injection you are able to run a higher compression and still use unleaded pump gas then you can with a carb. Is that true? If so how high are we talking about?

If not how the heck does that 4th Gen ZL1 Camaro with the 427 smallblock have a 11:1 compression, which I imagine runs on 93 octane?.

Because the GENIV Small blocks have reverse flow cooling. Which means the water pump, pumps the cold water through the heads first to help cool them. Instead of the old motors like mine which pump the water through the block first.

Also, the whole motor is aluminum. So it dissapates heat much more efficiently.

edit: i saw yoru profile. whats up with these mustang owners lately? coming in here talkin like they're cars are the shit and dog on other peoples cars. you do drive a fast car, i give you that. however, that S2K a.k.a. slow ass rice should take your car on the 1/4 mile if he can find traction. and from a roll on the highway will leave you for dead. ( if you were stock after reading up on your car it obviously isn't.)
