Is mixing brands just plain wrong?
I've got a nice Kenwood head unit, cost me 300 bucks, sounds great, but the speakers in my 96 Integra suck. I want to get some, just looking around, and the Kenwood speakers I want to get are NICE, but they are 150 bucks a pair. There are some other brands, like Sony, that are of the same quality but at aroudn 120 or 130 bucks a pair. So, if I mix brands is that breaking a commandment of car audio? I dont want to be cheap, but right now, I'm low on money. I could just cover up the speakers with the stock grill, no one would know
What do you guys think about that? It just sounds right to have everything kenwood, not a kenwood head unit, infinity speakers, pioneer subs, sony amp!

nobody can build a complete system of all the same brands and be completely happy with it. You'll probably find that some companies make better products than others so you will have to mix and match to have the best, and there's nothing wrong with it. I have
sony HU sony amps no name x-over kenwood speakers

yea mixing brands is ok in fact you might have to not all companys make all parts. Like Momo/Polk doesn't make Headunits.

i agree, some companies make better speakers than amps, other companies make better headunits.
my system is currently: RF HE 10'', MTX amp, infinity components, alpine headunit. my next system: 2 infinity kappa perfect 10", Memphis Belle amp, alpine or kenwood head unit, same infinity components |

yeah definitely don't feel obligated to buy all from one company do your research and buy what yuo feel suits your needs the best. I'm telling you this from experience.
I bought two Audiobahn subs and friggin loved them they really are amazing, so i naturally wanted to build my system with all audiobahn stuff well I went and bought an amp and some competition speakers from them and honestly I think that the 60 dollar pioneer speakers i had in my last car were better than the audiobahn ones and my old alpine amp is better than the audiobahn one i got.... I mean if you want bass then audiobahn subs and one of their amps to run the subs is great but for your mids and highs their amps and speakers just didn't cut it for me. now i've done some more research and i'm gonna get some Focal utopia speakers and blaupunkt classT amps for them, leave the audiobahn subs and get prolly either kenwood, alpine , or blaupunkt head unit so anyway sorry bout the length but don't waste your money like I did... do some research and get what is good in each area of the system

for lower priced speakers a good line is infinity reference and fosgate fanatic p components, ive had good expierience with both of those cheaper lines of speakers and ve went though alot,
the guy who said dont buy sony, HES RIGHT, sonys quality is good on thier decks but speakers subs and amps blow majorly, dont even think about it i run full rockford gear in my car, wires, battery, amps, speakers,cd,sub and couldnt be happier(i could if i had the cashola) im more recently getting nire indepth to cars and how they work but im a big car audioperson, if you need help im the one to ask, if you want to see some cool shit and some loud bumps then here it is or if you need help with anything, brand mixing is cool if your not commited to a company like i am to rockford, go for it but stay away from sonys, kenwoods arent that great either for speakrs and pioneer are alright but def try the infinity reference and fosgate fanatic p com ponents, you will not be disapointed |

definitely consider buying different brands as you choose .... the car audio industry has worked SOOOO hard to standardize so you can mix and match.
