96 euro engine...
hey, im doing this for my friend, he bought a 96 m3 last year and just found out the oil compression rings are bad, so hes screwed... anyway, obviously hes going to buy a new engine, he wants the euro engine (i would too) but we live in ca so it wont pass emissions.... anyone know if its possible to modify it somehow so it will pass? other than bribing the smog inspector, thats a last ditch effort

Re: 96 euro engine...
California is rather strange, in case you hadn't noticed. If you were to strap a big catalyst to the car, and the car passed the simple exhaust pipe emissions test, it still wouldn't pass if they realized it wasn't SMOG exempt.
Now, if you claim it's OEM, there's a chance that you could get away with it, as long as it passes exhaust tests. |
