check guage light is ons

would anyone know what to look for or how to correct why the guage light keeps coming on? I do not notice any problems with the guages them selves so I am at a loss. I don't want to take it to the dealership, they will charge out the yang just to tell me they don't know.

thanks for you help

mike

your check gauge lamp comes on to warn you of low fuel levels. if not low fuel level then temp, oil, etc. LOOK

Re: check guage light is ons

dont know what year car your talkin about, but if you want to check the codes on your car, at least on a third gen (OBD I) you can take a paper clip, and put it in the top two terminals, on the right side of your diagnostic connector. and the check engine light will flash the engine codes in morse code kind of. say for instance you have a lean running condition, which i think is a code 42. the light will flash a code 12, as in a flash, pause, flash flash, long pause, then repeat three times, then it will go, flash flash flash flash, pause, flash flash, long pause, and repeat three times. it will do this for all engine codes, when it goes back to flashin a code 12, you are done. and it has started over. you might be able to take those codes to a dealership and just ask one of the techs to do you a favor and tell you what they are. hell, if you post them here and i remember to check, ill tell you. im a chevy tech and could find that out for ya. or just in case i forget to come back and check, send em to me on here in a personal message, and ill do what i can.
