serpentine belt help

i have an 88 300E 230k miles...
is there any way to tighten the serpentine belt yourself?... how would it usually cost me... if i took it to a mechanic... thanks...

Mercedes has designed a system for keeping the belt at the correct tension. It consists of a mini shock absorber, a spring and a tensioner pulley all located behing the aux fan on the front of the motor. After ten years the shock is shot and the pulley needs replacing.
