Unhappy Car smoking, bad methinks

Hey I really need imput on this... I own a 85 fiero SE 2.5 4 banger, all stock, and lately its been idling really high, and while driving its sounding like its getting really strained if that makes sense, like when ill accelrate the car will jerk and then smooth out... but yesterday it was really bad and I got to my friends house and popped the hood and uhh yah smoke came billowing out.... and I coudlnt see any oil getitng burned or any liquid leaking. So any imput would be great lest my car exsplode in a flame and engulf me lol.

sounds like the catalytic converter may be stopped up. my advice is cut it off and put a pipe in its place.

Re: Car smoking, bad methinks

theres quite a few thing that could be wrong. check the pcv valve. test compression the rings could be shot. cat might be clogged. just to name a few. hope that helps you find the problem. gives you some ideas to start with anyways.

Re: Car smoking, bad methinks

FYI. The early fiero's had a little thing with the catalytic converter. See they would get a oil leak BUT the oil would never hit the ground. It would fall on the catalytic converter and collect there untill it was a nice grease fire. Fieros & fire go hand in hand. If it wasnt a fire from the cat it was the headlight motor sticking on and catching on fire that was the death of most.

Re: Re: Car smoking, bad methinks

i've never heard of a headlight motor caching on fire either erifnuS. mine stripped out and it ran for a while before i could unhook it and it never even smoked much less catch on fire.
