Fastiva

I saw this festiva in a magazine one time. It was an early 90's with a turbo kit and it was lowered and all. It did quarter mile in 13.2 i believe. They called it the FASTiva. I would drive it....

There was another special Festiva made called a SHOgun. They only made 6, Jay Leno has one, in fact, he was apparently doing donuts in it on his first show...

It has a wide-body kit, and huge wheels on the outside. But the engine compartment has been completely gutted out, same with the back seats, 220 hp Taurus SHO V6 sits transversely behind the front seats driving the rear wheels. I believe it does 0-60 in the 4-5 second range.

I just ran a N.A.D.A. value check on a SHOgun Festiva (yes, it's in there!), and they said average value = $34,000. I guess when there's only 6 in the world you can ask whatever you want.

Actually the Ford Festiva isn't an american car. It was made by Kia, a Korean car company. Just rebadged by Ford.

Actually my festiva kicked the shit out of my friends 93 Civic Dx which was stock with a 1.5 liter....but still....its a festiva!

Also the one on ebay had a 351 with nitrous....if it was the white one that was tubbed out you were looking at...

and the Fiesta was the Kia....Festivas were actually built by ford/mazda branch hence the mazda motor....the Fiesta was the later predesessor to the festiva which was indeed made by Kia

Yeah the Festiva is also a Kia Pride and Mazda 121- they are tediously awful things- they left the NZ marketplace late, last year

it was a mazda design and parts shiped to kia and put together by kia. if you look at the sticker on the door it say manufactured by kia. hence a kia pride which is the same car but right hand drive and different grille. there were only 6 of them shoguns made but they are going to produce them again from what i understand. you can get more info at fordfestiva.com

Lots of misinformation in this thread. I'll try to sort it out.

1) Mazda designed and, for a while, built what they called the 121 from 1987 or so. (Goes along with 323, 626, 929 - cute, huh?) They then transferred all production over to their Korean joint venture with Ford, better known as Kia. All 121s used either a 1.0- or 1.3-liter 8V SOHC four-cylinder.

2) Kia built the 121 for quite a long time, from 1988 to at least 2001 (which is why they lasted so long in other markets, like New Zealand). They kept the same boxy shape throughout. Kia also sold the car under their own name, badged as the Pride (which is a bit ironic).

3) From 1988-1993, Ford bought Kia Prides and had them fitted with Ford badges and stereos for the US market. These were known as the ubiquitous Festiva. Using the "bigger" 1.3-liter four, Ford sold quite a lot of these until the market finally moved on to better things. They tried again with the redesigned Aspire model (still built by Kia) from 1994-1997, but it was nowhere near as popular.

4) For a brief period in the early 1990s, a California company built what they called SHOguns. The cute name is derived from the car's Yamaha-built Taurus SHO V6 engine, a 3.0-liter DOHC 24V unit of roughly 200hp. This was mounted in the rear of the car, right where the rear seat would normally go. Given the Festiva's light weight and this new mid-engine setup, you can imagine how fast these probably are. And yes, Jay Leno is reported to own one, though I don't know if he still does. (Of course, the man owns a jet-powered motorcycle, too, so go figure.)

5) Do not confuse the FESTIVA with the FIESTA. These are two totally different cars. The Fiesta is a Ford-Europe design with Ford-Europe engines, and has been in production in various forms since 1977 or so. Though front-drive and small, just like the Festiva, the two cars share nothing at all save a Ford badge.

Hope that helps!

You'd think with the recent upswing in compact performance that a reborn SHOgun would be a natural...too bad.

I can just imagine that car with the SHO V8 in the back...
