Weatherstripping removal help needed...
Thumper (my 89 Camaro) is scheduled to get it's new paint job late next week. I have tons of new parts for it including weatherstripping but don't know any "tricks" to get the old stuff off. The t-top strips are glued into channels that look like a mutha to get adhesive out of, anyone have any experience with these??

it shouldnt be TOO hard, but then again some cars get ar eal good glue job fromt he factory. get a small putty knife and work you way under it, if the glues too tough then some gasoline (its the best stuff I've used, i'm sure acetone does well too but i cant say for sure) in there can loosen it up. If you need to, cut the old weatherstripping off and just work with the parts that are glued in tougher.
Just make sure the surface is completely clean when you do the new stripping, turpentine, gas, acetone, whichever you need to use to get the junk off, believe me its worth it,just be careful around your paint with it, and if you use gas let it dry REALLY WELL, learned that one after a little scare and some gas vapors in the car (who knew overnight wasnt long enough)

Thanks for the input!! Has anyone tried 3M adhesive remover? it seems to work on most other tasks...

sorry, soak them for 5 mins before you put the new ones in, also if you cant get some on the door off spray them w soap too and make sure there clean 18 yrs of crap can ruin the seal
