Let me just say that I dont work for any imorter or anything like that, I am just telling you what I found out (i found all this out when i wanted to imort a S15 Silvia {everyone thought about it at least once right?}) so some of this might not be 100 percent correct (mabe around 90%
).It ALL matters what car your planning to import. If it is a model that was sold in the us (and the exact year {DOT doesnt agree that the same model but a different year is significantly the same}), then you can just import it yourself (crate it over) and pay a liscenced RI (Registered Importer) to get it into compliance wit the DOT laws (law requires you to prove that the car has been modified to meet the U.S. standards, and DOT only lets an RI do the modifying, so sry you cant do that by yourself and you have to pay the $$$). The penalties for smuggling a car in are super stiff and the car will be crushed and melted if they catch you, so dont go swapping VINs!!!! This are the only Nissans on the "LIST OF NONCONFORMING VEHICLES CAPABLE OF BEING MODIFIED BY A REGISTERED IMPORTER" Nissan 240SX (1988) - 300ZX (1984) - Fairlady and Fairlady Z (1978 - 1979), Skyline GTS, GTR (RHD) 1990 - 1999, - Maxima (1989) - Pathfinder (1987 - 1995) - Stanza (1987) - Z and 280Z (1978 - 1981). Other than those (and the exact model/year car that were in america) your otta luck (like the S15 Silvia and i think any 180sx after 94 or 95, the cars that ONLY came out in other countries like Japan). If you want to imort a car that has never been in the us (like the S15) you would have to PAY for the crash tests (which cost around 50,000 or somethin redic like that). If you dont want to go through that then you can just contact one of these peps. This is the list or RI (Registered imorters) Here are all the rules All the Regulations and Law Stuff And here is the Skyline info. PDF document for Skyline Eligibility for Importation Hope this helps, but a word of advice, unless its like a Skyline or sommething that you cant just buy in the us, it would be ALOT cheaper to just convert EVERYTHING to the Jspec ver. Good luck. ![]()
