Dame Edna makes Sharon Osbourne blush

It takes plenty to make Sharon Osbourne blush and speechless but Dame Edna Everage did it on US television.

The blushing began when Dame Edna presented Osbourne with a purse made out of kangaroo scrotum.

The purple-haired Aussie diva then delivered a few wisecracks about Tom Cruise's height, Nicole Kidman's weight, Lenny Kravitz, Russell Crowe, Prince Charles and the Queen.

It all happened on Osbourne's new US talkshow, filmed in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles.

Osbourne, the foul-mouthed wife of British rocker Ozzy and the star of the hit reality show The Osbournes, interviews her guests on stage in a king-sized bed.

When Dame Edna arrived on the set of The Sharon Osbourne Show, the host was midway through interviewing 30-year-old Canadian-born actor Victor Webster, a part-timer on Sex and the City and a star on sci-fi TV series Mutant X.

Osbourne had earlier encouraged Webster to remove all of his clothing except for a pair of boxer shorts.

"I brought a little gift for you from Australia," Dame Edna, as she joined them on the bed, said to Osbourne.

"This is a kangaroo scrotum made from a little wobbly bit."

Osbourne was laughing so hard at the purse, about the size of a large grapefruit, she was incapable of speaking.

Webster chimed in: "It doesn't look very little."

Dame Edna responded: "Well, it's quite small by my standards."

Osbourne and the audience were still in hysterics when Dame Edna pulled out a packet of chocolates.

"Do you like the soft ones or the hard ones Sharon?" Dame Edna asked.

Osbourne: "Hard."

The near-naked Webster, who was jammed between the two, then looked flustered: "It's getting hot in here."

The talk turned to Aussie actors and Dame Edna boasted how she had taught drama classes to Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.

"Little Russell Crowe, his parents brought him to my home and said 'Teach him all you know' and I did," Dame Edna said.

Osbourne: "Did he come as a gladiator when he came to your home?"

Dame Edna: "He was a little small to be a gladiator."

Dame Edna then gossiped about Tom Cruise and the media reports that have Kidman and rocker Lenny Kravitz romantically linked.

"She likes little men, she likes small people," Dame Edna said of Kidman.

"You know Tom, when that sadly broke up I remember she was ringing me. She said 'I need a shoulder to cry on Edna'. Of course, if she cries on little Tom Cruise's shoulder he'd have to stand on a ladder wouldn't he.

"I think she's just looking around. She needs a little help and a bit of fattening up. Don't get too skinny."

When talk moved to the British Royal family, Dame Edna had the audience in stitches again.

"The Queen calls me when she has a problem," Dame Edna said.

"Pretty well every day she's on the phone. Honestly half the time I don't take the calls."

As for her favourite royal, Dame Edna picked Prince Charles.

"I introduced him to that Camilla," Dame Edna said.

"I did introduce him and it worked."

Osbourne asked if Parker Bowles was on a horse at the time of the meeting.

"No, but she was walking strangely. She might have just got off one, I don't know," Dame Edna said.
