Instrument Cluster help

Recently all the gauges in the instrument cluster stopped working; speedometer, tach, fuel, and coolant. Checked the fuse, it's good, pulled the cluster out, and everything is plugged in. Any ideas? Is this a common problem? Do i need a new cluster?

check your solder connections you may only need flux if solder is already present

i have the cluster in front of me, do i need to remove the entire circuit board off the back to solder the connections or are the connections visible without taking it off? What connections am i looking for here?

i only said I was a Solder Tech not that I've taken out my gauge panel before but since it is like a computer there just has to be some wires running from the gauge itself to the board if that is the case re-solder the connections to the board itself and to the gauges. Be careful. Flux is a liquid that you can put on solder to make it flow better instead of the usual lumpy block of solder you get a nice even flow.

p.s. I hope you have disconnected the battery before you took off your cluster. If not disconnect it now you just may set off your air-bags.

Lol. Actually I've been driving it with the cluster out. Funny that you would say it'll set off the bags when it's not in any way correlated into the air bag system or the accelerometer sensor that causes air bags to go off.

you are correct about the panel corelating to the airbags ;however, you are working near the vicinity of the air bag impact sensors. One good bump and BLAMMO! Air bag deployed.

I don't believe there are any airbag sensors in that area of the dash. Anyways, as to my problem, there semed to be quite a bit of corrosion formed from moinsture on the circuit panel itself. I just cleaned it off with a spray can of electrical terminal cleaner, put the cluster back in, and voila, all gauges are operating again. That sure saved a bunch of money and didn't cost anything.
