Question '00 Rear Speakers not working

I have a '00 GP GT and the rear speakers work very rarely, or if they do come on it is usually only one. I have checked the connections to my CD player and everything is correct. Any ideas what would cause that to be intermittent? Also I don't think that my factory alarm is working, other than locking the car and unlocking by reaching into the vehicle, is there any way to test it? I noticed that the blinking light does not come on when my car is locked, but it does when the door is open. Any Ideas on that?

Thanks

The upgraded stock stereo in my 98 has a stock amplifier directly behind the glove box on the passenger side. I would check those wires. Also, i had a leak one time in my a/c intake and this caused some water to drip onto the amp causing the back speakers to have static. Hope this helps.

Re: '00 Rear Speakers not working

I had the same problem on my '99 (and have seen the problem on a couple more) where the speakers would work one day, and not the next, eventually stopping all together. I tested all the way backwards and it ended up being in the speaker... right where the wire hits the cone itself.

I tried playing with it, but couldn't get a good fix. Just had to replace the speakers. That could be the problem.

check the factory amp. behind the glovebox pontiacgtp is right some gp's have water leaking in from the firewall or the a/c whichever but regardless water hits that amp and blows out the rear speaker or makes it static. check that if not check the speaker itself.

1. I had a rear speaker replaced under warranty on my 2000 SE. Just dug out my slip but all it said was "Inoperative Circuit" Same symptom as yours.
2. My alarm system is so sensitive that the cold air at night (below freezing) used to set it off. Dealer said you can change the settings or even turn it off. If you hit your fist on the door it should set it off.
