Changing water pump 83 Nissan Stanza
So far, I have removed the upper timing belt cover and alternator but the lower timing belt cover will not come out although all the bolts have been removed. It appears to be 'locked' in place by the crankshaft pulley.
Are there any other tricks in changing the water pump in these cars or is this normal procedure? Thanks knji |

Re: Changing water pump 83 Nissan Stanza
Well I have an '87 Stanza and I replaced this. I didn't have to remove the alternator, so I think it might be different. It sure is a pain to change though. The lower cover came off pretty easily, I'd say just check all sides to feel any other bolts.

Re: Changing water pump 83 Nissan Stanza
Hi KN, that lower cover is going to have to come off. I know this cover is a real pain in the rump to get off. It is not locked in though. You are going to have the pull the pully on the water pump first If I remember right. It has been a long time since I have done it. The front motor mount is also going to have to go too I think. Other than that, I think it slides down from the bottom. If you have questions, please ask, I will try and pry the answers out of my brain...
