Are ZX3's really that slow?
Hi,
My friend has a 99' Pontiac Sunfire GT with K/N intake, and exhaust, with bosch plaitnum plugs. His is an Automatic. My other friend just bought a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3. It is a 5 speed. ANyways we saw them on the road and asked them if they wanted to run real quick. The kid says fo sure he would be able to take us by 2 car lengths. I just laughed at this remark. SO anyways we foudn a deserted straight road at around 11:30 PM. We went from a Stop and instantly took him off the line. He stopped right away and said he accidentaly kept his Focus in 3rd gear. So this time we went at the count of 3. The focus took off half a second b4 us and we floored the SUnfire and pulled on him. It looked as if we where walking past him. He chirped 2nd pretty crazy but we still walked all over him. Then he still said he wanted to go again. This time we went from a roll, and he missed 2nd and grinded the gear. 3rd time we went again and he actually didnt miss but we still beat him. We esitmate we beat that Focus by about 4-5 car lengths. I thought they would do alot better then that. I know he was a shitty driver but he shoulda kept up at least off the line, right? Thanks

I don't know to much about ZX3 but I do know that it has basically the same engine as the ZX2 which is what I have. They have a 4 cylinder, DOHC Zetec engine with Variable valve timing. The ZX2 can do a 1/4 in a little over 15 sec. so I'm guessing that the ZX3, since it's heavier, can probably do a 16 sec run. It's not to bad for a stock car but yeah, a sunfire GT that is modified could walk all over the ZX3.

honestly it sounds like the guy wasn't much of a driver (if he made that many errors), but a kill is a kill.
is he new to driving a 5sp? cuz if so, give him a little time, and it'll be a lot closer. when the cars are as close as these two, then his driving will be a HUGE factor in the race (since the sunfire is auto).

thats a grip of mistakes for like 3 runs. Race him again when he learns how to drive.

I talked to the guy teh night after the race adn he said the reason he won was that his car was running shitty... lol. I think he was jsut a shitty driver, i mean the car is a 2001 how can it run shitty?
He also said that another reason he lost was because he was running shitty gas? Regular is shitty? In a 4 cyl Ford? I use regular and so do some of the fastest cars on the road. He also stated that it wasnt fair because the sunfire had exhaust and intake? And he said wait till he got his exhaust, he stated he will win. Well if he said it wasnt fair, then why did he race and say he was gonna beat us by 2 cars? He also said he didnt know the sunfire was a GT, but a few days earlier he had asked me what kinad sunfire it was, and I told him. It people like this that piss me off. They cant stand to lose. Alright, im calm now, ttyl.

I do a lot of freeway driving for work, and I see all sorts of cars pulled off to the side of the road with the hood up. (Flat tires don't count)

I wasted him on video in my Talon and he braggs to this Del sol that he beat me. So the del sol raced me and a whooped him too...neither can be found after that

The mods to the Sunfire aren't going to give him more than 10 HP; I am assuming that you are talking about a cat back system, not a new exhaust. Anyhow; the ZX3 should be able to keep up, it sounds like this guy can't drive worth crap.
I wouldn't call a ZX3 fast, but I wouldn't call it extremely slow either.

i would, i beat a zx3 in my moms sport contour v6 24valves 2.5 litres
by 2 whole car lengths, those things are slow as hell, and you can't tell me a dang thing either, i raced that thing in action, and ate his ass up, in a contour not the svt either. i just don't like focus'es period, oh, are we talking about the svt zx3, cause if so, that defeats everything i just said  otherwise yes they are slow as hell

whats the name off the focus "Sporty" sedan the one with just bigger wheels adn a spoiler? is the focus in this story the 2 or i guess 3 door one or the "5" door one?
