Question tranny

ok I dont know whast wrong with my tranny, i have a 97 olds aurora and the over drive is gone, I replaced the filters and fluid, my cousin said he had the same prob but with second gear so he changed everything out and it worked but it didn't work for mine, I was wondering what is wrong does anyone know, has anyone had the same prob with any tranny Im so frustrated cause I go on long trips and this time gas ate most of my money. so please help
