Painting valve cover...

I'm going to paint my valve cover and was wondering if i will need to replace the gasket on it or i could just leave it on while i do this?? I dont want to take the thing off then figure that i have to replace the gasket lol....

I dont know if you have to, but I would.

talking about that, I need an oil pan gasket. time to check the crank

Edit: I just noticed your sig, you're rebuilding your 7 bolt?

You don't need to buy a new gasket the old one will be fine. I did not buy a new one for mine and it is fine. And just make sure you use the real high temp. paint. I know there is a 500 degree one but i would go with the 1200 degree one.

yes sir i am. I am "rebuilding" and not just getting a new engine because i am trying to find out cheap fixes for crankwalk, and becuse this is my job and i love my job lol....

what color?

ashah000 what size grit did you use? I think im gonna start with a stripper to get the paint off then go with 320, then 600, then 1200. What did you go with? Also what color paint do you guys think i should go with? Im also painting my calipers and dont know what color would be good.... any thoughts??

is it difficult?

Is it difficult to paint the valve cover ? interested in doing it but not sure if it is too difficult.

nope, just gotta make sure you sand it all down so the paint has something to hold onto

I went from 320, to 600, to 1200 to 1500 (I think) it was a long time ago. The color is your choice, I went with silver, and it looks fine. And I think i am going to paint my calipers blue, I have seen a lot of blue calipers and they look real nice.
