Question Check engine AFTER cleaning throttle body!

Team Max... I cleaned my throttle body today and made a critical error.
I started the car with everything disconnected and sprayed the TB cleaner in hoping to get an even better clean than with a rag.
The problem is the ECU picked up that the MAF was disconnected and triggered the Check Engine Light.

After I put everything back together, I checked the ECU code just to be sure and yep 01-02... MAF.

I reset the ECU but the light stays on.

Any suggestions? Will the light go off in a week or two once the ECU realizes the MAF is fine? I DON'T want to be forced to a Nissan dealer just to turn the light off.

BTW... My 98 is running much sweeter with the TB cleaned. I recommend this little 1-2 hr project to everyone. Just DON'T run the car with the MAF disconnected.

are you sure you reseted the ECU correctly? The same thing happened to me when I cleaned my throtle body but after resetting it it never came back on.

At first the engine would'nt stay running, it would turn off... but after accelerating it a little bit it caught back on

I think I reset it properly. Tell me what you think:

1. Turn the ignition to on.
2. Turn the screw on the ECU clockwise to stop.
3. Wait two seconds.
4. Turn screw counter clockwize to stop, then immediately clockwize to stop again.

Does that sound right? Maybe I missed a step?

Talking Success!

I went out and tried again with a different screw driver this time.

I went at it two more times .... and it feels like the adjuster screw has a false stop on clockwise.

Once I got by that ... the travel was much greater and I followed the reset procedure ... sure enough ... the light is off... and I've saved a trip to the dealer!

Thanks for sending me out to double check my work!

All is good now!

but I think that also after doing the 4th step:

. Turn screw counter clockwize to stop, then immediately clockwize to stop again.

you have to turn it counterclockwise to a stop one final time.

ya... correct.

my description above was slightly incorrect.

the screw starts at Counter-Clockwise stop.

you have to cycle it forward and back twice to clear the ECU.

So you are right... the final position is counter-stop.

She's a different car now with that ECU cleared..... and that's a good thing!
