Re: suspension mods

whoa...leaf springs?!?!?!
those are back in the days

for those, you will probably have to get a drop set from a pick up truck. Something from an S10 or simular.
You might have seen those before, they're simple blocks that move your leaf springs upwards into the car...thus result in a lower stance for you ride.

I'm sorry, I don't know which kit will fit your car. You will have to look around.

good luck

He is right about all you can do is drop the vehicle, not much in the way of performance parts if any.

yeah...it's too bad.
not that there is anything wrong, but your car is farily old.
I not sure what you can find.

You will have to do a lot of customizing.
For example, the drop kit for the leaf springs that I told you about
Try to find out if there is any for your ride.
Check out ones for a light weight pick up truck (toyota?)

And...for the front.
See if Eibach has springs for you. I'm not sure if they do, but looking at their list, they almost have springs for everything car out there.
If there is NO springs out there for your ride...even those from another car that might work for you, I guess you can cut them or heat them.

They will in fact lower your car, but it is NOT recommended because it makes the springs unpredictable.
But if you must lower your ride and you have no other choice, at least you can go through this route.

good luck

I don't understand why Honda gave the 2nd gen Wagon leaf springs. The other 2nd gens had 4 struts. If you dont have a panhard rod, get one. I would try to find a shock with a coilover spring to replace the stock shocks. Obviously you will need to leave the leaf springs in, unless you make trailing arms.

For the front, you could probably find stiffer springs or coilover sleeves that would fit. If the front struts are in good shape, you could "drill 'n' fill" them. Drain the fluid out and fill them with thicker fluid. It's been done, but not by me (yet ).

Anti-roll bars would help too, especially in the rear. There are companies that make custom ones, or you could adapt one from a car with a similar suspension setup.

My '84 Wagon has the same type of suspension as the 1st gen CRX, except the Wagon got stiffer springs.

Panhard rods laterally locate solid rear axles, they mount behind the suspension, with one end tied to the axle and one tied to the chassis. Do a search for panhard rod installation on the net, you should find plenty of pictures to illustrate how they work (if not, go buy a good suspension book for domestics).

Blocking the leaf springs will raise the car's ride height, not lower it. In order to lower a car with leaf springs you need either softer springs or fewer leafs, not blocks.

oh yea! :bonghitte thats typical me totally forgetting something like that. its definately a good idea ill have to look for one that will fit my ride i could use it. and on the second note i can drop the rear by blocking it cuz the axle is between the leafs and the body. i plan on putting on coilovers but i want to drop it first so i get the ppropper legnth hopefully the highest ammount of spring force i can get, i love carving the canyon but right now i got so much body roll i scare all the other drivers on the road.

installing the blocks on the opposite side of the leaf spring will lower it. an old trick my little brother used in the minitruckin days.

Or do what my freind does for pictures,
he calls it his fully adjustable suspension.
Highly tunable and highly underrated.

4 bags of concrete
2 in the back and two on the valve cover.
