Question Dashboard Idiot Lights

First time on, so "be gentle with me". The dashboard lights up like the spacship in "ET", and then the idiot lights go on and off in a random way. Doesn't affect the way the car runs, just very disconcerting. Any idea what's up?

Thanks

Re: Dashboard Idiot Lights

sounds like one of the modules is loosing communication or the instrument panel is loosing iether power or ground. check for codes and if there aren't any - check feeds and grounds

There is a TSB for the Pulsating dashboard lights (headlights too). I think is was caused by a bad ground. They fixed mine in accordance with the TSB!!!

Re: Dashboard Idiot Lights

I believe it is TSB 01-06-03-005.

It involves replacing the ground screw on the alternator. I did mine in about 30 minutes (would have been faster if I knew where it was first). The "kit" (from GM dealer) was about $4.

Take care,

Greg A.

Re: Dashboard Idiot Lights

Thanks, but I'm afraid the dealer over here already got me for $375.00, and I'm not sure what was or wasn't done

Re: Re: Dashboard Idiot Lights

thanks for the tsb info, will try to get at a gm dealer, hope it solve the up and down random fuel guage readings. i am having a problem with a flashing door ajar warning signal. the interior lights all work fine with opening and closing doors and the door switches seem to make perfect contact. do you have any ideas about the door ajar problem?
thanks!

No knowledge, but I know I really have to SLAM the doors when I close them.

I need some assistance regarding the same issue with pulsating dash/headlights for a 2000 silhouette. I bought the GM part (as described in the TSB) but unable to locate the grounding screw after removing the plastic wiper cover. Can't see the screw while looking straight on the alternator.

Any help will be good.

Thanks.
