turbo housings?
can you split the turbo housing apart, and put them back together without effecting the balance of the wheels and shafts??

No one has really seen any gains from porting the compressor outlet on a TDO5H compressor cover, which is what I am assuming you are running (14b, 16g, 18g, etc). So you can take the exhaust/turbine housing off without harming anything. Just remove the WG actuator arm, and the bandclamp that holds it to the center cartridge. Its that simple. Just be careful to pull it out squarely so you dont damage the blades on the turbine wheel
There may or may not be an alignment pin on the housing/center that will help you align things when you are done, so be careful not to smash that up while porting. The compressor housing could come off by removing that snap ring, but its really not worth your time. Have fun

cracks in my 14b exhaust housing!!!!
i ran into a new problem today, i was screwing around at work and went ahead and split the exhaust housing away from the rest of the turbo and was inspecting it, i looked it over and there is some f*cking cracks, i dont know if this is normal or not. but none of the cracks run into the turbo outlet, or all the way through the housing. but there is 2 that start in my tubo inlet and one runs down like it is going to the fan/wheel and the other runs into my wastegate, this WG crack continues through the center(so essentially the WG has 2 cracks in it). how is this going to effect the perfomance of my turbo?? thanks for the help, i will try to get pics up soon.

Exhaust side cracks are normal, but compressor side cracks arent. It will take abit longer to spool due to ex side cracks.

Cracks are perfectly normal, even in practically new castings. Again, see the porting vfaq for pictures of the cracks Tom had on that hosuing. I bet your are in the same place. 3 in particular are common. Drive it on

The compressor side should never have cracks. Aluminum is pretty soft... The cast iron on the turbine housing side is brittle though.
