too much for this turbo kit?

im looking at a turbo kit and i was wondering if they were asking too much. it comes with a lot of stuff like JE 9:1 forged pistons and crower rods but they want like 6500.00 for it. also is says ill only boost 14lb's with that work on an ls i figured i could boost 16 normal driving and when i went to the track turn it up to like 19-20. could someone check it out and let me know if thats legit. and how high i could run the boost. the kit is at www.sfp.net its the stage 3 kit. thanks

Well you get a lot of stuff and its basically a turn key turbo kit. I wonder if the "ALL NECESSARY HARDWARE REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION" includes the gaskets and bearings and such to put the motor back together after you install the pistons and rods. Speaking of intstalling, there would be a lot to undertake with the kit that the average Joe could not do, ie installing pistons and rods.

If you are not a machanically inclinded individual and dont know what a air fiter or oil filter is (not saying this is you) this might be the best route. However, IMO it is too pricey. You can probably piece a similar kit together with less money invested.

I am a DIYer though. I do all my own installs/builds.

For others, here is a direct link.

Re: too much for this turbo kit?

If its a "class project" so to speak, then maybe you guys could research on what to use. Research intercooler sizing, charge pipe sizing, exhaust sizing, injector sizing and so on. Then based on that you could piece together your own kit. It would be a good opportunity to get firsthand knowledge and experience. Youwould know and understand every aspect of you setup. Cant argue with free help.

I wish that I had the chance to do something like this when I was in school.

Re: too much for this turbo kit?

Yea, its my crx. It holds it own. I down have a pair of slicks therefore I dont waste much time running it. I am not sure that you have shown me a pic of the car(s). Btw, it wont take much to eat that Saturn.

The main things you are going to run into with 14+psi is the cylinder walls you will have to sleeve the block then upwards of 20psi you are going to need to clsoe the deck to reinforce the cylinder walls so the don't move and break. And yes you could build that kit for alot cheaper.

Re: too much for this turbo kit?

If you're going to run over 14psi on an LS motor, that $6500 better come with some new sleeves and a bad-ass turbo or you're getting ripped off. Shit, that should include the motor!
