i had a friend when i was in school who i think actually had an 89 camaro, and the trunk wouldn't close. so he got one of those trunks that automatically latches. costs like $250 i think. mine for my 02 firebird costs $400, but i have a much more intricate system than just a latch catching. i also have a gas actuator to fully open and close the hatch.

It happens to me all the time. What happens is, the mechanism is in the lower position and it won't catch. Push with your finger, right in the middle, down on it, and it will raise back up. Nothing to be afraid of, it won't catch your finger.

taking out the solenoid will open it, but won't close it.

Well thats probably my problem... Mechanic said theres something wrong with my solenoid, so its probably like there is no solenoid, so it won't close... I bought one already on EBay, but does anyone even know if they are interchangable?
