Question Lowerin' the Max?

I was looking around.. and saw that u can buy eibach springs for about 220$ ... Would this be the only modification to lower the car... or will it cost a lot more? what do i all need... and of course.. i won't be doin' this.. hopefully someone else can.. so how much money will this be?!?!

Hopefully under 500
cuz i want some rims added on too.. when i get it lowered...

When you lower it you may want to look into some struts depending on how many miles you have. I actually had my stock struts with my Eibach springs on for 40K miles. I don't necessarily recommend it but 40K with no problems or abnormal tire wear. I spent $350.00 installed with a 4-wheel alignment (a must).

why pay someone to do it

Take your body to autozone and rent a spring compressor for $46.00 fee and once you return it you get your money back. What???? yes I did my rear shocks in my back yard for free. Does that help. It is not hard is time consuming thats all. You have the time do it. Youll save money to get your little rims. :smoka:

If you are tight on $ you can go with just springs but if you wanna do it right the first time get shocks/struts and springs and do them all at one time. It'll save you from having to spend more time and money pulling out the suspension a second time. And whenever you change anything suspension related always get an alignment.

Personally I'd recommend the KYB AGX shocks/struts because for the money you get adjustability.
http://www.cattman.com/kyb.html

But I've also heard that Koni's are pretty good. Price-wise the KYBs will run you about $400 shipped. Labor charges will run you anywhere from $240-$400. It's really very easy to do you might want to look into doing it yourself to save a you few bucks for other mods. Here are some instructions in case you're interested.

the kyb agx struts are for 380... does that include the shocks.. or do i have to get the shocks seperately.. same thing with the springs.. do i have to get the eibach springs which are for 220... i mean.. wow.. that's a lot of money... i have 700 right now.. and should be gettin' more.. i know that's not enuf.. i jus wanna lower my car.. the cheapest way without any problems in the future... i'm hopin' all i need is the struts for 380 and the springs for 220... so i have some money to save for rims...

$380 is the price for the whole set but it's another $20 for shipping = $400. Shocks and struts are relative terms. They mean the same thing. Here are there definitions:

Gas shocks-A type of shock absorber that's pressurized with nitrogen gas to reduce internal foaming and cavitation. Considered to be a premium grade shock, gas shocks are often used as original equipment on sports sedans and even mini-vans. A gas shock usually provides noticeably better ride control and flatter cornering. They're well worth considering if you're in need of replacement shocks.

Struts-A special kind of oversized shock absorber that's used as part of the vehicle's suspension. When used on the front suspension, it replaces the upper control arm and ball joint. Some struts have coil springs around them while others do not. Some struts have replaceable internal components that can be repaired by dropping in a new cartridge.

So you're looking at $400 (shipped) for the shocks/struts and $220 for the springs plus whatever it costs you to install them. If you do them yourself you'll be able to do it for $700 otherwise you'll need more $ to pay for installation.
One more thing depending upon the condition of your OEM shock boots you might have one more expense. If your OEM boots are still good then you can probably reuse them if they are worn or torn then I'd recommend you get some new ones. You can get them from Cattman.

Thanks for the compliments. As a matter of fact mine is a 96 auto. My tint is actually 20% mirror and a sheet of 20% limo behind it. Not exactly legal. As far as exterior mods I have the Stillin kit and SMX grill with the Stillen Type II spoiler, clear lenses and red/clear tailights. Oh and chrome Momo Status rollers. Good luck with your mods.
