Chip it?

I have a 1997 Ranger and have a Cat back Flowmaster exhuast and a home made ram air intake and both made a huge diffrence in power I was wondering if anyone has installed a chip in a 4 cyl? is it worth it? do i need to use premium gas?
Thanks.

Re: 2.3 litter Performance

hey man, ive got a 2.3 liter ranger to, buts its a 91, i put an intake on it and a valve cover breather filter, they made a big difference, i also put on a flowmaster system and it did a lot of good, but ive heard installing a chip in a ranger is the most helpful of all, but you do need to use premium, couse it burns better, or you can get your chip programmed for the lower octane gases if you want to save 10 bucks a week

Re: 2.3 litter Performance

Hey i have a 96 Mazda B-2300 with of corse the 2.3L. I was thinking about putting a turbo in it and can't find a single person to talk to about this engine. I was just wondering if the internals will be able to handle it. I know already that the ECU and then fuel injectors will work but i'm just wondering about the pistons and rods? Even a point in the right direction will help me, thanks

Re: 2.3 litter Performance

Your easiest, and possibly cheapest, route may be to find an older t-bird turbo coupe and swap the whole thing. There are plenty of mods, including turbos, that can be done to the 2.3. A search should yield many sites with information. If a local guy can run high 9's in the quarter with a 2.3L (2.5L now) single turbo mustang, you can surely build a nice street truck.
