EvoVIII vs. 02 SS

Finally got one ...

Had a really long and shitty workday today, so I was looking to releave some tension in the car. I'm cruising home on California at a leisurely 30-35mph when I hear a blowoff valve go off to my right. The guy stays behind me for a while in my blindspot. We approach a stoplight so he decides to punch it, cut into my lane, and make a left turn onto Lake... red EvoVIII ... It's ON . I punch it, he gets to the stop light and pulls a pretty tight left turn. I get there and have to brake because there was oncoming traffic. I wait till it clears then make my turn giving it a bit too much throttle. The rear end breaks loose so I get sideways for a bit. I recover and see he is stuck at the next light in front of Border's books. I slow as I get near to a 10mph roll. The light turn green right as I catch up to him. We both proceed to roll at about 10-15, I'm about a foot in front as I rolled through the light. We make it thru the intersection then both punch it. My tires let out a short YELP instantly allowing him to pull a fender on me. The tires finally grab and we stay that way for half of my 1st gear. I start inching him at the higher RPMs. Top of first he's at my window. Second kicks in and we hold steady for a bit. Midway thru 2nd gear he starts to fade quickly, he enters my blindspot. We run for ~2 blocks, I get to the top of second (~85mph) and I pull maybe a 1/4-1/2 car on him. I slam on the brakes and he switches lanes and turns right on Del Mar.

I'm quite pleased with my car, I thought for sure the EVO would edge me out in the 1/8.

CLIFFNOTES:
EVO8 vs. 02 LS6 cammed SS Camaro
10mph roll, EVO pulls a fender on the launch
Cars remain even thru most of my 1st gear,
Evo inched from ~4-6kRPM in 1st.
Evo pulled from ~4-6k RPM in 2nd.
Ran for two blocks to top of 2nd gear (~1/8 mi./~85mph) pulled 1/4-1/2 car on the EVO

Good kill! Although not to be a party-pooper or anything, if he had actually launched at the light, you would have had to play catch-up a bit longer. You'll edge him out, eventually, but just saying...

Nice run bro. Tho you should have had him from 10mph, if your in the 300+ hp range. Those 16g's dont usually spool up to 16 or 19psi till 3500 rmps. The 2 evos I run with never take me from a roll at 10mph untill the top of 2nd gear, its just not there power point. You must be packin some serious power bro. None the less another evo goes down..

Nice kill, danno. Did that LS6 cam void the warrantee? Can the dealer even tell that you have the cam ? And did you have to pull the motor for the cam swap?

Great race!

I've been so use to the one sided battles that hearing a close race between two great cars is really refreshing.

How long are you planning on having that engine with running 2nd gear to 85 mph???

I trapped my SS at 105.5 mph in the quarter and was just ready to shift to 4th then. Now what if there's a true LS6 in your future

I guess he can pull that off cause he's got the A4 tranny.

Yeah, if the dealer finds out it's in there I can kiss the warranty goodbye. The cam idles just like a stock LS1 cam so the dealer won't be able to tell unless he takes it out. It is a real mild cam that only offers good gains at higher (4k+)RPMs. I'm still running with the stock LS1 shift points (~5.9k RPMs) so I'm loosing some of its potential. The LS6 guys I've talked to all recommend upping the shift RPMs above 6300. The cam peaks at 6250 and is pretty flat up to 6500. I don't want to risk valve float so I won't set them that high (prolly 6350). I didn't do the cam install myself, no tools or knowledge , but here's a linky to a how-to site. That doesn't look too difficult. You just remove all of the thing-a-maging's from the front, take out the old one and slip in the new one .

Nice race Danno SS.

First I must say I have always liked the SS over any other V8 out there. Good choice. When you raced the Evo was he at a dead stop or was he also at a roll? The Evo's strength is the launch. In August at California Speedway's Drag strip I ran a 13.718 @100.28 in my evo with a 1.8 second 60' . There was a mod'd SS that beat a new Z06 there also. I'm just happy to know that I can keep up with an SS period. Great car.

Re: EvoVIII vs. 02 SS

Now that this has been brought to the top, where's Jared 80 on this? I've been arguing with him in the Muscle Car forum about Evo VIII's the past couple of days....

Good kill, 1 question though? Why is your car only dynoing at 306 rwhp w/ a LS6 cam in it?????????

Re: EvoVIII vs. 02 SS

That's a good question, you should be dynoing higher than my car without that cam in it...
