Turbo Engine 3SGTE Swap

I am a huge Celica fan, and my plan was to sell my 90 ST after i've saved up some more money, and buy the all-trac, but my plans were shot. To make a long story short, I wrecked my car, the insurance claimed it totaled, got it repaired for cheap (it was only body damage), and now my insurance has skyrocketed and they will not put full coverage on my next car, so i'm stuck with my ST. So, anyhow, I want that turbo engine for my car (3SGTE), what else do i need to get to make the swap?

Notice people talk like they have done the swap but notice there really isnt any write-up or at least no one has been nice to send somewhat of there experience on a swap.

People are like you need this , you need that, but why?
I hear you can change the crank off the 5sfe to the 3sgte, but will this cause the engine to become an interference engine......etc, etc

There are more discussions about the swap, but they dont talk about the swap, more like argue.

anyway just making a point......that someone knowledgable would get to the point on the swap.

Example I have completed a tranny swap for a 96 celica GT Convertable from an AT to a MT (S54). I have a complete writeup for this year model
and I have posted this on the 6GC.net site for everyones viewing pleasure. oh yea with pictures!!!!!

Your friendly celica enthusiest.

I plan on making this swap too....i have a 90 Celica ST

Here is what i've found to be needed first off before anything else:

1.New Transmission(me: auto to manual)
2.New Clutch...stock ST clutch cannot hold the 200HP turbo torque from 3S-GTE

3.New rear axel - the All-Trac is AWD....so the ST/GT versions would need a new rear axel to accomplish the AWD part...(PM ME OR SEND ME A MESSAGE ABOUT THIS....THIS PART IS STILL SCEPTIBLE..IS THIS MOD NECCESSARY?)

4. New hood...the intercooler is a top-engine mount...so a new hood is needed to fit the intercooler.

if anything else is needed...post it here!

Re: Turbo Engine 3SGTE Swap

just get the whole 3sgte and drop it in...and go with a stage 3 act or clutch master clutch...roughly $2200 for both....oh yeah and the wire harness too...so basically...get the whole front clip and youll be good

a few friends showed me some stuff today....they were talking about maybe adding an MR2 tranny...rear wheel drive...although i would love to have the AWD just because i want the closest to an All-Trac as possible while saying that i had it custom done
