okay guys Need help one big Question

okay, this is pissing me off. I bought a 88 V6 camaro in the summer, ran good minus the exhaust leak. I took the time to fix it with a new exhaust manifold gasket, now all is good with that. Now.. It starts up fine idles real nice, sounds good you know the usual well, after about 10 min of driving it down some streets or even idle for that long the oil guage starts to bounce up and down like it has to take a piss. Goes from 0 to 60 psi for about 5 minutes and then finally the pressure goes to 0 and then the check engine light comes on. It pisses me off to no other that i want to take a hammer and beat the living fuck out of the block. Im going to drop a 305 motor in it that came in another camaro that i got thats besides the point I want to get more run time out of the V6 before I put the V8 in.

Double check your readings with an aftermarket gauge to see accurately what it's really reading. Could also be your oil pump is going out, acting up after things heat up.

Re: okay guys Need help one big Question

could be your pressure sensor, it is a part, and parts break. it should be screwed into the block above the oil filter. i dont think your oil pump is bad, because if youve been driving around with no oil pressure, you would be having some conciderably worse problems by this point. so i think your sensor is bad, kinda like, if your fuel sender goes, your guage may say that your tank is empty, even if your overflowing it at the pump, so you have a full tank (full oil pressure) but your guage says your in trouble. so i would replace the oil pressure sensor, its not very expencive, and not very hard to do.

Re: okay guys Need help one big Question

I had a bad oil pressure sensor and my check engine light didn't come on, but that would be the first thing to check. Not all problems are the same. If that fixes it great, if not...then it's time to check the oil pump. Hope you have a buddy to yell at while you do this, it sucks.
