Door panel removal

Hello, my midrange speaker in the driver door of 1998 328i is now crackling and I want to replace it. Only problem is I'm concerned about removing door panel because of the side air bag...don't want it to go off. Anyone have any notes on panel removal? Thanks Swamp

Door panel removal reply

Don't worry about it, the airbag is on the door itself-not the door panel. Just remove the 2 screwes under the door handle and one behind the "airbag" sign, the rest is just clips, I've done the 328is before so it's quite simple.

P.S. If you're still worried, you could always disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Re: Door panel removal reply

Thanks BulletTooth. I'll give it a go. BTW, do you know a good source other than the dealer to replace a blown Harmon Kardon midrange speaker?

You're welcome.
As far as the speaker goes, I work at a car stereo shop and the BMW I told you about needed the midrange too and the only place we were able to get it from fast was the dealer, however you could look on eBay or junk yards but remember you get no warranties there. Anyways let me know if I could help you with anything...
