Blazer gas gauge and seat handles

I have a 2000 Blazer. The gas gauge suddenly stopped functioning. Can anyone tell me what sort of repairs I may need. Is it expensive? Also, just after turning 100,000 miles, both seat adjustment handles sheared off withing a week of each other. I contacted chevrolet, but they say that it is normal wear and tear and refuse to fix the problem. Has anyone else had this happen to them? It seems as though 100,000 miles and everything is broken. This didn't happen with my '94 Blazer.

Re: Blazer gas gauge and seat handles

is the gauge pegged one direction or the other? Most likely cause is a faulty sender. There is a coating on the variable resistor that wears off causing erratic or incorrect readings...but before you replace any parts some diagnosis will have to be done.

As far as the recliner handles breaking, have seen many break...they have a rough life...your vehicle was covered under a 3 year 36000 mile factory warranty, after that the financial responsibility for repairs falls on the vehicle owner.

Re: Blazer gas gauge and seat handles

It's only got 100,000 miles, it's only got 175,000 miles, I cant beleave you called & complained to the division about a vehicle with that kind of mileage !!! Do you expect them to cover your oil changes to, because you drove 3,000 miles & now it's dirty? It's called maintance, expect it! I have seen pleanty of people who deserve thing to be covered on vehicles just out of warranty, that arn't.
Like brakes that are only covered 12/12,000 & having to buy rotors because of rust problems here in the northeast, were we use salt & pleanty of it!
But anyway, the f/gague problem is probably like merlin said, the level sensor & about $90.00-$120.00, NOT COUNTING LABOR. The seat recliners have a tendency to break the shafts off, not the best design or choice of material but they break by themselves, usually hooked on something or used with to much force, they run around $65.00 each &
if you got p*ssed & threw the handle thats another
$10.00 each,NOT INCLUDING LABOR.

Thanks Merlin, that doesn't sound too expensive.

Just FYI Boozer - I called re: seat handles to see if there was a recall. My southern lady-like upbringing prevents me from telling you how rude you are, but I would suggest that you learn how to spell.

Re: Re: Re: Blazer gas gauge and seat handles

RECALLS ARE TO TAKE CARE OF SAFETY RELATED ISSUES. Every handle on every s-10 ever built could fall off &
there wouldnt be a recall!
You said they refused to take care of it, that dosnt sound like you called to see if it was a campaign but
to complain & try to get somthing "FREE".
Also since I know your the origional owner & wouldnt think of calling to complain if you wernt, you
would be notified by mail of a campaign now & any
in the future.
P.S. merlin did'nt post any prices & if you think I'm
being rude well,------------------ I'm not going there. I SPEL REEL GOODD, BUY NOWW.

Smile Seat Handles

I bought the replacements for about $10 for the pair. Doorman makes them...Get them at Autozone or Carquest. I think they are in those "Help" packages. They actually designed it to fit over the broken part.

Is there really any need for you to sound like a total ass? You act as though its coming out of you pocket if GM were to actually do something about it.

as for your claim that recalls are safety only, your wrong. recalls have been issued for for part failure if the failure rate is high and those failures are considered premature.

like the crank position sensor on my 95 S-10. failure of the part shuts the engine off and it wont run, its not considered a safety related issue, but it was recalled due to a high failure rate.

now considering the mileage, no the handles arent going to fall in to that category, but you dont have to come off being an ass about it.

What type of diagnosis' need to be made. I have a 1999 Blazer and the fuel gauge is acting very eratic and is not accurate at all.

First would be installing a guage tester and testing the fuel guage operation.
Next would be to remove the fuel tank and test the sender for open spots in the resistor card.

As far as recalls go, there are several types...customer satisfaction, fmvss non compliance and safety
Do not confuse a technical bulletin with a campaign...they are 2 completely different items.

Re: Blazer gas gauge and seat handles

gmseatfix.com sells replacement handles and a special sleeve that fits over the broken shaft. It seems to be holding up pretty well.

The gas gauge on my 2000 Blazer (76K) went all jumpy like three weeks ago too. I sent a complaint into the NHTSA this morning. It sounds like GM should be doing a recall on this and several other parts (seat handle, ball joints, and rear wiper fluid sprayer just to name a few)

Question for any of the Chevy/GM Tech folks out there - If the sending unit is shot, does that mean the whole pump is going to fail soon too? I’ve replaced 2 other pumps in my time owning vehicles (both GM), and I don't see/feel any hesitation or other signs that the pump is going. I don't want to spend maybe $600+ just to fix the gas gauge when I can keep an eye on the trip OD and filler' up every 300 miles or so but I don’t want to be going 80mph on one of the three highways I drive each work day and have the pump cut out. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hate to say it but after this truck is paid off I'll be going foreign for my next one.

Either Hyundai or Toyota.
