Underground Hip Hop

Can anyone recommend some good UNDERGROUND hip hop for me? I'm getting tired of mainstream stuff and I'm loving whats being played on the alternative station late at night. Stuff like Roots Manuva, etc, I can't think of any other names because they just play the tracks but don't announce them. Just something different from stuff like Eminem, 50 Cent etc that's murdered on the airwaves. Just post some artists and songs, thanks

Oh, and you wankers with "ALL RAP AND HIP HOP SUCKS" can just fuck off, if you don't like the music, don't post in here.

Re: Underground Hip Hop

if you like tu-pac then be sure to get someone by the name of Blac-Haze, because both sound the same and rap the same way. Umm...its too early in the morning for me to remember anymore, but when i come home from school i'll post some.

Re: Re: Underground Hip Hop

What about some of the Kiwi stuff?
Decepticonz are ment to be pretty good, although they will fill your head with christian hypocricy.

Scribe, of course.

Che Fu is a must have, NZ's hip hop god.

Nesian Mystic of course, although that might be getting a bit main stream it is, like most NZ hip hop totaly orginal, i.e. almost no use of samples in thier music, its all orginal, and played on real instruments.

And theres a wellington group Ill be damned if I can remember the name of that do some pretty hard core stuff and have been around for at least 5 years, but only ever get played late at night usualy on student radio.

The Rascalz from here in Toronto aren't bad...

definitley get some Beastie Boys. they may be white, but they can rap and about good stuff too.

also, i highly recommend Jurassic 5.

i am DEFINITLEY not a rap fan. i HATE all the current "bling bling, my money and my bitches and my liquor and i have so many car keys you'd think i'm valet parking" shit that's over-played and over-marketed these days. but i can DEFINITLEY enjoy some good underground hip-hop that actually has a topic and a meaning. the Beastie Boys are played all the time on the local rock station, as is the new Outkast song, "Hey Ya", because it's more hip-hoppy and not bling bling rap.

I suggest getting song from this chicago rapper called Verbal.

I strongly recommend:

Verbal - Tasha
Verbal - A Walk in My Shoes

Those are the best 2 imo.

I have Scribe already, I'll look into Deceptikonz. Oh, and I quite like my Christian "Hipocrisy" thank you very fucking much.

Don't like Nesian Mystik much, also, NZ hip hop uses tons of samples, look at P Money and Scribe, it's only really Che Fu and the Krates that use live instruments...at least, that's out of the big name acts here.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em coming

They're not that underground anymore, but these are the best I can think of right now.

Talib Kweli
Mos Def
The Roots
Jedi Mind Tricks
BIG L
De La Soul
Gangstarr
Non-Phixon,
The Beatnuts
Rakim
7l & Esoteric
Copywrite
Dead Prez
Blackalicious
Atmosphere

Just to name a few. There's a lot more, and the lyrics make a lot more sense than that gay shit you hear on the radio every day. The radio BS really ruined hip hop.

Like someone said before, all you need to know is

Dead Prez - Hip Hop.

one of the best hip hop songs IMO. and an earth shattering bass beat. it's what i use to test my subwoofers every once in a while

Re: Underground Hip Hop

Isn't NAS Underground hip hop? (dont laugh if that was a stupid question)
I was on the plane and I talked to some nice lady who's daughter was an underground hip hop artist from the Bronx. I forgot her name though. I have her phone number, maybe I can call her up sometime...

No he is not.

Outkast is probably one of the few groups that actually has their own style.Just listen to their new cd,I haven't heard anything like that in my life. You have to give credit to a group that isn't afraid to do want they want and not worry about how it will be accepted.
