aftermarket radio install

dang so many questions... got the pioneer deh-p3500 tonight. looked at http://www.ny-jbodies.org/forum/libr...2/2kaudio.html to see how to install new one.

but it says "In order to turn your new aftermarket deck on and off with the ignition, you have to tap onto a wire that carries +12V when the car is ON and in ACC. There's a brown wire in the ignition harness that you can tap. It's a heavy wire (12 gauge) compared to most other wires around it. There are also two red wires, and a yellow, pink and orange there too - if GM changes the wire colors, use a voltmeter to check which wire carries +12V during the ACC and ON key positions. If you are tapping this wire - FUSE IT!"

where the heck is that wire? (brown one) and is there any other ideas on how to do the install? i have a 2002 cav. so i don't know if the color scheme has changed yet. thanks for all the help.

Re: aftermarket radio install

Just get a premade wiring harness... you'll need a fancy one that leaves the OE headunit somewhere in the car if you want your door chimes and such to still work.

Then you just wire it up to the Pioneer HU, and the colors should match.

i have a 2002 cavalier, and i put in the JVC El Kamelion, but i hard wired it up or whatever. And then i took the power wire and ran it behind my gauges into the fuse box, i dont remember which fuse i put it in, but if you would like to know just email me and i'll look. the cd player has been working fine and i have yet to have any problems that people say i'll have.
