Theres a few thigns it could be.
1. Air in the hydralic system
2. Check the shifter cables connection on the tranny
3. Check the clutch pedal adjustment
4. Check the shifter to cable connection underneath the shifter itself

check your cutch fluid. If its low put more in. There might be a leak in your clutch causing hard shifts and it will eventually drain all of it out. My best guess is get a new clutch master cylinder.... I put a new clutch master in my talon today and wow, what a difference....

The description of "it goes in but its sticky," and not grinding, leads me to believe its none of the usual problems as mentioned above, but binding calbles, or lack of lubrication at the shift/select levers. I would start there, unless it is actually grinding into gear as if the clutch system wasnt working properly, or the synchros were goingbad.

Yup my synchros are going bad...might wanna check those out because once they go out, you have to come to a complete stop to put it in ... well whatever gears out. Thats gonna suck if its and synchro except 1st , you learn not to use it.

I checked for leak and saw none.
I look at the linkage in the car looks fine.
I had the cluch and synchn replaced 6 months ago with the trans.
Do hey go out that quick??
Also when i move it back and forth a few time it goes in to 1st. once it is in 1st or 2nd and i have the cluch push in it shift fine. I can move it to 1st and 2nd and there no stickin as long as i have the cluch in, After i drive i go to do it over. longer i drive the worse it gets.

I took it for a ride and when im down shifting and go to 2nd, I pull it to 2nd and in stead of force it i coasted and when i get down to 15mph or lower it when in.. also im not down shifting fom 30 or some thing like that

Hope this more info help you guy

whoa, 6 months ago. It should be smooth if it was replaced. I would take it back to the shop of where you got it from and tell them. Either they messed up somehow or you just dont know how to drive a standard very well . The leak in the clutch master cylinder is hard to find.... cause it really sounds like there isnt enough lubrication when you say "the more i drive, the worse it gets". Just like an engine, no oil, no go

Re: probs with shifting into 1st & 2nd

you might have bent one of the fingers on your pressure plate. i had the same symptoms and a bent finger turned into a broke finger and lodged itself to where i couldn't shift into 1st or 2nd at all. this happened 2 minutes after i left my tune shop where i just paid for my new clutch and was bringing the car back the next day. try doing a u-turn with only 3rd... lol ...

also try giving the engine a rev right before you try to put it in gear. ie: depress clutch, shift out of 3rd, qiuck rev, then try putting it in gear.

also, for all of you unlucky enough to have been through it...could this be a sign of crankwalk? or is that for 97 and up?

crankwalk is mostly for the 95-99 cars. I just figured his car was a non turbo since he never said in his posts ..... and no i don't think its a sign of cranmkwalk

I had to read the last description 3 or 4 times, and I'm still not positive I understand it, but it sounds like it is in fact synchros. If it was clutch related, its almost always in all gears, not specific ones. Who rebuilt the tranny? Also, if the shift calbes are not adjusted properly (2g is non adjustable, but the brackets at the trans can become bent) it can wear the synchros prematurely. A clutch that grabs too close to the floor can do that as well. Then once they wear, the issue with the original bad adjustment will become very apparent It could also have been a shyte rebuild, or one of those hack shops that replace the axle seals in a junkyard tranny of unknown condition and call it a "rebuilt" tranny . One last option, and the cheapest to remedy, is the oil. DSM turbo trannys are very particular about what oil they like. 95% of poeple find the a tranny with old or bad synchros will shift much nicer with BG synchroshift. Even on a new tranny it can make a noticeable difference. I would start there, since its the easier thing to do.

I had that problem but found out my crappy shifter was just bent. Sometimes it's just an easy problem like that. I dove right in and assumed it was a major problem and overlooked the easy and the obvious problems which were right under my nose. Did you see if your shifter is beat up?
