Talking Civic or Camaro?

I'm debating now weather I wanna keep my civic. I have been looking at this nice 1995 camaro for about 2 weeks. Last night I rear ended someone because they pulled out in front of me. I'm waiting for a check from my insurance company. I dont want to repair it and would like to trade in my civic PLUS my check for the camaro. Would you do the switch? Its a nice metallic blue Z/28 1995 Camaro with 116,000 miles on it for $5,000. For $450 extra I can buy a 5 year waranty which covers the transmission, engine, A/C, and other lil parts. The minute I drive it off the lot they give me a tune up to SHOW me that its ready to go. Meaning... once I buy it they send me to a place where they give it a free tune up. Its a stick shift also (YAY NO MORE AUTO!!!!) Engine looks SUPER SUPER CLEAN! Let me know what you guys think. Help me out a lil like...times, HP between the 2, gas usage.
What is better about the Civic and what is better about the Camaro? Would you make the switch? I dont feel like having my civic repaired but its not a big deal.. just needs a new hood, bumper, corner light, and right fender needs a lil work PLUS all the painting. Bodywork has a lifetime waranty.

Re: Civic or Camaro?

reliability - Civic
gas mileage - Civic
hp - Z28

I'm sure the reliability and resale value may have gone down a bit on the Civic now though. Test drive the Z28 and see how you like it. I sometimes wish I had a V8 with some guts. I assume you haven't put any mods or a bunch of money into your Civic, so go for the Z28 man. I've put too much money, blood, sweat, and tears into my car to bring myself to sell it.

mid 90's Z28s are not bad... the LT1 is a pretty nice motor gotta love the sound. I used to drive a 95 v6 Camaro. must say, the bose stereo was nice, seats were decently comfortable... power windows tend to get slow

good job trying to do much under the hood though!!! there is NO room under there. and I do mean none

does it have to tops? gotta love those! just don't spray water directly at them and they don't even leak too bad

Re: Civic or Camaro?

Get the camaro if its worth it, have it inspected by someone other than the stupid ass dealer. IMO its well worth paying $100 for someone to inpect the used car(95 Z28 = beat to shit), even better if you know someone to do it for free.

I bought Camaro when I was 17, still have it. I've been trying to sell it for a while, but I dont think I ever will. Too bad its got t-tops or I'd set her up for some road racing.

That 95 camaro will be a bitch to work on, where EVERY honda 4-banger is simple as can be. Wait til you have to change the spark plugs.

Re: Civic or Camaro?

I gotta admit, I just couldn't get past the redneck image of driving a camaro... that and I just couldn't feel as much joy in having a camaro and beating cars with half the displacement as with my little 1.8L engine dominating 4.6+ L engines.

I guess I just like being the little bitch instead of the big bully =P

sidenote: agreed on getting that thing checked out... The $100 check-up is well worth the $100, doublely so if you know of a mechanic that's really fluent in the beast.

Wanna buy my camaro? White 96 Camaro...Was driven by an old man to and from work every day as a long distance commuter... high milage, but that's due to the long distance commute.

I just picked it up for cheap to get me from point A to point B while I'm fixing my Civic... I can't stand the damn thing though... feels like I'm driving a tank when I'm in it, it's so big and heavy. Sure, if I put my foot to the floor it takes off like a rocket (so will my civic when I'm finished), but driving it just isn't nearly as fun as driving my civic.

Yeah. If I wanted to be dominating the streets (with less $$ than it'd cost to "dominate" in my CRX), then I'd get a 5.0L mustang, or LT1/LS1 Camaro...but how would it feel to beat these little 4 cylinders, when you have double the cylinders, and a ton more power? It's like getting into a foot race with a senior citizen..even if you win..what can you be proud of?

Hell yeah to the Prelude idea! I love the 97 (I think?) and up Preludes. My second car (getting one in the next year), will be a 97+ Prelude, 92-95 civic hatch, or even a 94-95 Integra...

Get the real car!!!!!

Hey guys, I say get the camaro. I owned a 94 Z28 with exhaust, intake, wires, tb, airfoil, rebuilt tranny, Precision Industries 2800 stall, transgo and more and that car was bad ass. I now own an Ls1(see sig). These cars are a blast. NOTHING beats the raw power of a v8 real wheel drive car. They are sooooooooo much fun. Also, DO NOT EVER GET A PRELUDE, at least the last body style ones. They are slow as f**k!! My friend has a 2001 SH with like 5,000 in mods and when I raced him in my old Lt1 stock I would stomp him like no ones money. He also spent a lot more on the car than I did. Go American man! You wont forget it. LT1, LS1

*unleashes the dogs to attack*

sorry to say but i WILL take any import car over a domestic car anyday, no matter what. i would rather have my 4 cylinder import that can beat the bigger and badder domestics.

lighter car + same amount of hp = faster

i dont care how much i spend thats just the way it is going to be for me
