Question Towing a trailer: Using an Equalizing Hitch

I have just bought a 3050 lb. dry weight travel trailer, privately. It comes with an equalizing hitch and sway bar. However, in my Toyota 4Runner Owner's Manual, page 154 is the statement "Toyota does not recommend the use of weight distributing (equalizing) hitches".

None of the Service Managers at the Toyota dealers here in Vancouver can explain why doesn't Toyota recommend the hitch and what might happen if it is used.

Does anyone in this Forum tow a travel trailer with their Toyota 4Runner? If so, what type of hitch do you use and why? Has anyone used an equalizing hitch?

Does anyone know why Toyota recommends against it?

Thank you for any light you can throw on this issue.
