We had transmission flushed out and still doesn't want to go out of 1st gear when I'm driving. A friend mentioned about a computer chip needing to be replaced or something like that. Anyone ever heard of that? Did it help?

Re: 96 Lumina - Transmission Computer Chip??
NO....there is no transmission computer chip. The transmission control is part of the main engine PCM. It could be the PCM causing it, but I doubt it. You could take it to a dealer and have it reflashed, but I'm not sure if that's the problem. It could be that your transmission is just screwed.
BTW, if you are having transmission shifting problems, it is not a good idea to have it flushed as that usually makes things worse on these cars.
