i'm assuming your talking about the catalytic converter, you can remove it but its more of a pain than its worth really and it will make your exhaust have a much higher pitched sound. All in all not worth it really. If you did take it off expect maybe 1-2hp.

Re: Horsepower loss in catalysator

Get a race cat.You will gain atleast 5 or as mutch as 8 hp.I switched to a race cat myself.IT took 30 min.I shined a spotlight through stock cat and could not see any light on other side. The race cat has 2 inch hole straight through.Icould tell a big dif.

Yes, get a race cat. You will notice a higher gain in power but you will also suffer with the noise increase. If your area has noise level laws and they are pushy about it, then just get a high flow catalytic converter....you'll still feel a difference in power and increased noise but not as much as a race cat.

Re: Horsepower loss in catalysator

I would find out flow characteristics of stock catalytic converter, and then compare it to high flow one. Some times stock one have equal or even better flow characteristics then high flow ones.

stock or a well designed high quality high flow one. A gutted cat will only disturb exhaust flow, and a test pipe is a very very very irresponsible solution - not to mention loud enough to drive you nuts, a high flow cat can not only help the torque curve out a bit, but is also not much more than a test pipe and QUIETER.

Not to mention that if your in a state that does emissions testing, gutting the cat or using a test pipe will be a hassle trying to pass.

*ehem* impossible *laughs*

even in NC where they don't have an actual emissions test, they'll still fail you for not having, or having a faulty or straight piped exhaust of any kind. I got failed for having a hole in a stock muffler once.....that was funny. So I went, replaced it with an aftermarket one that was 2x as loud as the muffler with the hole, and they passed it w/o a problem - funny indeed how NC works.

Does anyone know where I can get a Highflow cat for my 6spd Accord? I was looking and couldn't find one. I am going to install an injen intake and at one point in time I was told if you put on an intake you need to get more air out of your car through the exhaust. Is this true? Would a Highflow cat do this for me?

I appreciate the help in advance

in nc its only no emmisions in some counties which depends on population. in 2006 we're going to 10 or newer emissions anyways. the way a guy at an inspection station explained to me it just had to be there didn't matter if it worked or what was on the inside the only did a visual inspection of the emissions system( by this i mean the cat and sensors and what not)
