Need help to launch my GS-T...
I have a fairly modded 98' Eclipse GS-T and when I try to race from a stop, my tires can't catch grip and I have wheel spin all the way through first and second and the first part of third gear. I was launching at 5000+/- rpms. I was thinking the factors that could have made this happen is I have Tein coilovers and they are all at their hardest settings... I was on 215/35/17 Bridgestone Potenza S0-3 Pole Position tires @ 28psi and running 20psi on the turbo. Any suggestions on how to get off the line without burning my tires off my rims?

First of all what turbo you got? 2nd 5000rpms..!! Way to high.. I have 18 inch chromes and at 3000rpms I wheel spin thru 1st. Your gunna have to warm up your tires first of all. Then take it easy on your launch. actually I dont launch at all. I kinda play with the clutch and find my grip point between 2-3000 rpms. Yeah I usually dont get the 1st 2 inches head start. But when my tires catch and I have my whole 1st gear still. Its usually over by 2nd gear!!

I gave the Greddy td05h-18g. I need my holeshot because I was racing a modded STi from a dead stop and there was no way I could keep up from a dead stop. I probably didn't even move... and I know I can beat him... I also have a ACT 2600 clutch and I tried a 2nd gear dump from 7000rpms and that didnt do shit but make me bog down to like 1500rpms, at least I didnt have wheel spin!

Your never going to beat an sti off the line plain as that. Your gunna have your best chances from a roll or at the track. Get some stickies and I wouldent dump at more that 3500 rpms. Or your going to be wheel spinning into tomorrow..!! Best advise ive got bud.. Yes with an turbo upgrade ill be taking on the sti n such. The t25 is just about DONE like a thanksgiving turkey... But my launch and 2nd gear kick ass tho..well for a fwd that is.. Pracice, practice, practice...If you took it to a track for the 1st time. some cars run alot slower than they are. Ive seen mustang cobras run 15's and an evo run a 15.1. Its all about the launch and shifting. Otherwise take it from a roll..!!!

I wanted to race from a roll, but he didnt want to...
My friend gave me a suggestion, to set my coilovers to their softest setting in the front and the hardest setting in the back so that when I accelerate the weight doesn't transfer to the rear of the car and the weight is concentrated more on the front wheels....???? |

With your mods you can probably take him in the 1/4 mile. But most the race your gunna be behind..just because hes got that o so awsome launch. Depends how good of a driver you are. So either dont race him, catch him leaving the lot and pull up side of him. or challange him at the track. Your gunna have to perfect your launch because you can have stupid times just for the fact your launch is crappy. like i said a 2003 svt cobra whos et 1/4 mile is mid 13's ran a mid 15.. so its all launch and shifting..

those tires are killing you also, why such a low profile?
what size is your rims? i'm running 17"x7" with 225/45/17, I also have a LSD. you may want to look into that, and practice too, u need to find your car's "sweet spot" mines is somewhere between 3100rpms and 3500rpms good luck |

3 things will be key for parts. One is a stiff rear ssuspension, which you seem to already have. This makes worlds of differnece. 2 is solid motor mounts. Its tough to be precise with clutch application when the motor is flopping aorund like a pissed off fish. 3 is sticky tires, which goes without saying. And low profile wont help the cause.
As far as technique, 5000 is too high as previously mentioned. Most people do suggest something in the 3500 range. But more important is clutch application. Its super important to let it out slowly. You have to trade wheelspin for clutchspin. This is a tough trade to make though, as we all know what a pain in the ass clutch jobs are. Changing tires is easy But that the best way to good launches in a FWD. With the above mentioned things, on street tires you could get as low as 2.1 second 60 foots. Which is enough to get the job done. Now, most AWD cars will do at least 1.9s or better on street tires. And its a bad day for a FWD that lines up against me on the street, I pull 1.5s on my all seasons But if you get down to 2.1s or so, you may have enough power to take such cars on the top end. The key is not losing the race comepletely in the first 60 feet, even if you arent winning the launch.

Re: Need help to launch my GS-T...
Thanks alot guys for the knowledge. I'm kinda new to the DSM world and to these forums, and I'll post my track times that I should be getting within the next week or so. I am tuning my car this weekend with a wide band 02 sensor so lets see how that goes...
