Exhaust

Hey, just looking for an exhaust for my 2g FWD, I was thinking about going with one from rnr racing. Should I go with 2.5" or 3"? I'm just going to stick with the stock turbo, just up the boost a bit after an exhaust and intake, but if 3" is still going to give me more power, then I'd like to use it. Also, is stainless worth it? Thanks

On the stock turbo 3" wont get you ay more power than the 2.5" which will outflow your turbo easily. But if there is any chance you may go big later, its is defintely worth it to get the 3 now, ad not have to upgrade twice (like I did)

Re: Exhaust

you know once you start you will never stop, so go with the 3"... listen to the wisdom from 95 gsxracer, he seems to have done it all the wrong things at least once, enabling him to find the best ways of doing things, i.e. the guy knows his shit.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that one I have broken parts in ways never before seen by man, and upgraded everything at least twice. I could have saved a lot of money, but 4 years ago the knowledge just wasnt out there like it is today. Part of the reason I spend 3-4 hours per day in forums like this trying to pass along what I have learned over the years, and fight the mass of missinformation out there. Hope it helps...

Right now I'm just looking to upgrade like this 1). Intake 2). Exhaust 3). BOV and 4). Boost controller. I know saying that that will be it is probably one of the famous last words of any dsmer, but going from an intrepid, then to an f150, and now, the first car I actually bought myself, a '96 TSi, stock is almost fast enough, but at the same time I've followed these cars for years even though I've never had one because I know its really easy to squeeze horsepower out of them and they always seemed pretty awesome. Basically I've just been using the two import tuners articles on a '99 GS-T as a guide to what kind of power I can expect. They are located here:

http://www.importtuner.com/tech/0209it_ppeclipse/
and
http://www.importtuner.com/tech/0109it_ppeclipse/

I don't know if their figures are very reliable, but if I could see power gains like that I think I'd be happy for quite a while, not to mention the fact that I wouldn't have any money to go much further.

Thats a great order to mod in. Good plan. On just those mods, I managed low 14s, and then high 13s on race gas. The only other thing I had was a clutch, and hard UICP, which you should get at the same time you do the BOV. On pump gas 16 psi always gaveme the most power. Good luck.

Just bringing this back up, do you think a 2.5" can still provide enough flow for a 14b?

Get a 3" for sure. Gives you more room for upgrades.

People run low 11s on 2.5" exhaust on much larger turbos than 14bs. Would they make more power if they switched to a 3" at that level? Yes. On a 14b though, the difference is minimal. Same for T25. But something to consider is your future plans. If you plan to go bigger later, get the 3" now so you dont have to upgrade twice like I did

Re: Exhaust

Just buy the 3" it will save you trouble down the road. It is not large enough to allow for flow back though, so it is good.
