Question Importing cars from japan?

Recently today i discovered a website "www.rushcorp.com" they specialize in overseas vehicles as well as marine vessels. The main car/cars that caught my eye were the white skyline GTS's. I know about motorex, and how they charge a whole lot to import skyline GT-Rs... would i have to go through them too? I think this website does all the work themselves, which might leave motorex and their spendy prices out of the question.
I proceeded to "freight cost" "http://www.rushcorp.com/cars/fc.shtml" where i typed in the location of pickup, which car i wanted, and how much money it was in Yen. The total cost, of shipping. insurance, and the car, was 6333$ US. That sounds like a bargain to me.

I just want to know if i SHOULD import, and is it safe and are their benefits. Has anyone done this before? and even if you havn't, if you know anything about importing share your experience. Thanks.

Although the price sounds attractive enough even for me, I think you also have to consider what you will have to go through regarding clearing customs, as well as how to legally recertify the car to meet US standards. I think this is why MotoRex has the upper hand. They have the knowledge to go through the red tape and have the car for you, ready to go, legally. The down side is that they are the only company that's offering such a service, this is why their prices are so insane.

If this company can match the service offered by MotoRex and can do it at a lower cost, then you might be on to something good here. I think you might want to speak to them a little further and get more info. Can't hurt.

Good luck.....

No matter what car you are importing (less than 25 years old),
if you want to have the car registered, you have to go through a Registered Importer (RI) and have them convert it to the US spec.
Unless the car is already in US spec. (label should be on driver's door)
In the case for Skyline, I don't think any of them were built to meet US standards.
So, the chance is, the car has to go through MotoRex.
MotoRex is the only Registered Importer (RI) in the US that can convert Skylines into US spec, LEGALLY.
As for the cost, it is a serious amount of money.
But you would also have to consider the amount of work that needs to be done.
Is MotoRex overcharing their customer? I don't know
Just for comparison.
Mercedes Benz didn't import their G-glass aka Gelandewagen until few years ago.
But the Gelandewagen was sold in the US through a private distributor in Arizona. I believe they were selling the car for around $130,000USD
Compared to the G500 now sold by Mercedes Benz USA, which is less than $75,000USD
