The numbers on the D16Z6 found in the EX above are correct. The DX civic's D15B7, however, has 102hp and 97 lb/ft of torque at the flywheel (not 92hp and 97lb/ft). Still, the basic point is the same (and as B16EJ1 stated, the D16Z6 is Vtec, the D15B7 is not). The D15B7 is a much weaker motor. It also has some of the weakest rods found in a civic. Also, some DX civics came with A/C, some did not. The EX will have A/C. For what it's worth, my car started life as a DX, and I'll give you my opinion. That motor was weak ass, like B16EJ1 said, it's just an econobox motor.

Re: what is the difference between the 95 civic dx and ex?

There are even more differences than that too. The EX is such an inexpensive car that Honda had to find ways to make its little DX even cheaper by making the sound dampening material thinner, they don't come with floor mats, A/C is a bonus option, and other little things that just make it worth it to get an EX as a daily driver. (all the extra little materials on the EX contribute to it's extra weight over the DX, which is why Honda racers buy the CX or DX models, then swap huge motors into them)

My DX came with Civic floor mats when I got it used, maybe the previous owner paid extra for the Civic floor mats. I hated em, so I put em in my mom's Subaru (it had none, and she wanted some) and got some much better looking black floor mats. As for the sound damping...yes, it true...as anyone who's riden in a DX....no sound dampening material....just carpet on the metal. Noisy as hell. If you get a DX, invest in something like Dynamat Extreme. You'll appericate some sound dampening on a daily driver.

Re: what is the difference between the 95 civic dx and ex?

It does have some, but it's super thin. I used to work at the East Liberty Honda plant (building only Civics) and realized how budget my DX chassis really is. Well, hatches are made in Canada, but the coupes are made here... same materials though.

Wow, the DX actually has sound dampening? Could have fooled me. Super thin must be an understatment, lol. What did you do at the plant?

Actually my girls 99 hatch is only 60 lbs lighter than my coupe. Both have nothing removed or added. On a side not on the Candaian made hatches. They are pre wired for VTEC meaning swaps are easy as hell.

So were all 6th gen hatchs made in Canada or only some? I was unaware they were pre-wired for VTEC.

They're prewired for everything (i.e. tachometer), but they don't come with the actual parts. Welcome to the ever-upgradable world of the Civic.

So are all, or only some of the hatchs made in Canada?

All hatches in the states were made in Canada and Civic Type R's were made in Japan. As far as the '02+ Si's and '04 R's I have no clue. I'll take a picture of the proof on my car tonight
