Possible Radar positions

I always see radar detectors stuck to the windshield of cars. I am planning on getting one soon (the ones that are cordless) and I no that they are illegal to have so I don't really want it in visible site in my car. Is there somewhere else I can put it or does it need to be pointing out the windshield?

Its sensor of the unit needs to be looking outside, and it needs to be able to see a wide angle, which means it should be in the middle of the windshield to be the most effective.

In my opinion, those things are a waste of money, and more of a liability. If a cop pulls you over and sees one of those, instead of maybe just getting a warning, you're gonna get a ticket. And, if you're going down the interstate at 85-90mph (legal here is 70) you don't have time to slow down before you get clocked, once again getting screwed. The only safe way to go fast is to have someone a decent distance in front of you (you need to make sure you can see if they turn) who is going just as fast, if not faster than you. If you have that, you never need a radar detector.

Oh, BTW, if you do get one, make sure it has the VG-3 protection crap, not many have it.

THe highest priced detector wouldn't save me on the interstate because state troopers use vascar (comuterized system that can't be detected by anything). I'm just using this so that I won't have to worry about getting caught for speeding or at least get a heads up so I can slow down and not get as lengthy a ticket.

But if you know that they are illegal, you will get fined for that (most likely) and it can be taken from you, so you get screwed more than an extra 5mph on a ticket would cost, in my opinion.

radars have helped get me out of a lot of tickets.

i had one with a 360° scope, and about a 2mile range so whenever he scanned the gun within that distance i slowed down. anyway, its VG-2 which turns the dectector off when a cop is searching for peeps with radar detectors.

i recommend getting at least a 7band detector, with laser. but for the ultimate in protection get a radar/laser jammer, they send a mixed signal to the cop so it cant get an accurate read on your car.

as far as mounting it, i recommend that you put it right above where the rearview is, that way from the front you cant even tell you have one and the cop wont notice it if he walks over to your car.

there not illegal where i am but i have it in the top left hand corner of my windsheild as far up as it goes so the cop would have to bend over and look up to see it and have it wired to fuse box so it turns on when i start my car

Ok, jammers are illegal everywhere. They send out a signal, anything which broadcasts a signal is illegal. If you get caught with one, it is taken from you, and a hefty fine, on top of what ever else you may get (like a ticket). It is very easy for an officer to get someone with a jammer, instead of the gun showing 50, or whatever, it shows a random combination of led's that are on. If you are in a large group of traffic, thats multi-lane, then you're relatively safe, otherwise, you're screwed, because the car the gun is pointed at is the car that is broadcasting the signal.

Re: Possible Radar positions

a lot of cops are using instant check too these days, which means by the time your radar detector goes off, he's already got you

where i live they are legal too and they dont take em away and i never got a ticket with one when i had hooked up under my rear view and cops would even comment on it and i would get a warning. but up here the cops are lucky to have a radar gun in the vehicle. in my town there is 5 cops 1 off road jeep and 4 cars. they were all excited when they got a second radar the other week so between 5 they have 2 radars.. and im sure they are simple radar guns nothing that would have jamming signals or anything fancy. but that is my $.02

Dude.....I say the best protection you have against a cop is.....just follow the damn rules... or break em just enough so you dont piss the cop off. My dad's best friend was a Cop for 36 years, now retired and told me what cops think about when they pull someone over.

1: only go 7mph over the posted speed limit..no more. ex. 65mph your max should be 72

2: if on the highway after 12 at night and barely any cars on the road, you can go upto 90 without ticking off the cops..or atleast in Cali thats the case

3: Don't swerve in and out of lanes...that pisses off all cops.

4: If you're in the fast lane and see a cop coming just move to the other lane, unless you are doing the posted speed limit...then your cool

5: If you see a truck speeding...18 wheeler....you can speed too...upto 15mph over...cuz trucks have CB radios so they know where every cop is.

Thats what my dads friend told me...i've been using this for 2 years now and no ticket....the other thing is which is very important.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE OFFICER'S MOOD!!!
