Trouble Codes...
I have a 1997 Dodge Caravan SE with a 3.3L with 134,000 miles on it. The service engine soon light stays on now. Doing the ignition switch off-on-off-on-off-on sequence I get 21, 34, and 45 trouble codes. I am not too worried about the 21 since its just the O2 sensor and the light will stay off most of the time with that code alone. I am worried about the 34 and 45 codes as I don't know exactly what would be causing those codes. I took it in for a brake job and had them check the codes and he said that one of em meant that the clutches are getting worn in the transmission, but I just find that kinda hard to believe. He may be correct but I can't note any slipping or anything wrong with the tranny. It shifts very good just like day 1.
Can anyone shed some light on the 34 and 45 codes for me? |

My Haynes book sez:
34* An open or shorted condition detected in the Speed Control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits. The * means that the Check Engine light would not be turned on for this. 45** An automatic transmission input DTC has been set in the transission controller (EATX). ** means Check Engine light IS turned on for this. Good luck! |
