Uncle ben's....?
Alright what is the definition of "Rice". Is it wrong to make your car different from the norm or what? Here is my car that I'm making for show, there will be some performance parts like a stage 2 turbo from hahn, but mostly a show car.....ummm.....yeah I couldn't really find another way to show my car other than the link so if that doesn't work then let me know.

my definition of rice is, if you pay for something thats doesn't improve performance, reliability or safety, its rice
being a ricer is just a phase you go through, you'll grow out of it eventually. some do sooner than other I had strobes at one time

I think the above definition is a bit unfair. Some poeple modify thier cars to look good (in thier own standards sometimes
), which is a perfectly legitimate hobby. The way I see it is this. You can make your car "go fast," and you can make your car "look good." Its the people that try to make thier cars "look fast" that are the ricers.

I'd defninitely have to say rice is kind of a phase too. On that note though, if you do something to your car to make it look different, and you like it, then thats ok, but at the same time, if you're doing it just cause other people do it, then its definitely rice. Also, putting v-tec stickers on your non-vtec honda and so on is definitely rice. Typically, most people who put stuff on their cars that doesn't increase performance fall into that category. Just today I was at Meijer getting food and in the middle of the parking lot there was this beat up cavalier, maybe 96ish, with euro lights, a huge tip, as well as cheap wheel covers blaring either a stock or really crappy stereo while just sitting there. To me, thats rice. But if changing the looks of your car was always rice, then there woudln't be car shows, so I think it just takes moderation for daily drivers and some sense of style for people that show their cars. Oh, that also reminds me of the mustang that was revving at my friend's hemi the other day, it had a full body kit and a v8 hood with racing stripes! For that kind of money he could have bought the v8 and still painted it, or supercharged it, but instead he had to cruise up and down the street being a bum in what I would call a ricer, even though its domestic.

oh but don't forget.....adding stickers and half-@$$ paint and steering wheel covers and crappy looking seat covers adds to the horsepower of the car and actually makes it faster...or at least thats what this one guy in a beat up old ford Contour thought...? I saw this car on this one street where people go at night to race/show off their cars yesterday and he had a wing on the back which caught my eye. Then I saw his terrible paint job to begin with, and the painted-over taillights with black spraypaint and the overspray on the trunk and side. he had a white car with a black hood and on it he had stickers like "import racer" and "nos" and a bunch of others on the fenders, then he had the pep-boys "fast and furious" graphics on the sides. I guess he thought it was a pretty quick car especially with the big fat huge exhaust......bolt-on TIP. Anyways he wanted to run it when i was next to it, he kept revving, but then there was a lot of traffic and I didnt get to waste him(wait...i mean we didnt get to race lol). Anyways, I would definetly call that "rice" because it does absolutely nothing for the car, and it more or less looks like crap because it appears cluttered and unclean. So I guess that could be another definition of rice, stuff that makes the car look cluttered and unclean. But then again on my car, I have a blue eclipse, so I bought that blue wire loom and put that on some wires and hoses in my engine and i painted the valve and spark plug covers. Then I have a big sticker of a dragon on my "different color than car" carbon fiber hood. I guess that could be counted as rice. I think the definition of rice is how far you go on putting non-performance stuff all over your car. I think the definition varies with different people.

A ricer is definitely most of the people who watch fast and the furious and try to be like that. Don't get me wrong, I watch it too but what sets the ricers apart is the fact that they do not know anything about cars. They will act like they do and they probably wouldn't even try to learn. Most ricers are ignorant and think that a stock car with a front air dam and a couple of decals will help them bag some girls. They eventually grow out of the stage when a true racer ends up blowing the paint off of their car. Ricers also think that their car is god's gift to the world. I've seen a buddy of mine race his mustang gt with mods such as exhaust, new rear end, etc. against a kid who was talking trash cause his girlfriend was in the car. The problem is that he was driving a civic with an intake. Well, I don't have to say what happened after that. When it comes to music I think a ricer turns up the bass on his stock system and tries to bump it. Do not bump a system until you can put the volume on zero and your sub are still making bass. I hate rice and I am asain. What a shame.

Hmmm..... interesting the varied opinions on the san francisco treat. Anyway if you look at the link I posted you can see what I started with and why I had to get rid of it, even though at the time I had no idea what GS, RS, or GST meant. I regret (severely) buying a GS and had fourmulated a plan to get the turbo from hahnracecraft.com, but I kept getting these horrible comments on the car, so in "rice" fashion I went and got the body kit from wings west and had a custom paint job. What do you think of it ?

Also I'll be the first to admit my car is slow....for now. I just needed to get a start. I'll finish the body kit then start with the turbo and cat-back (any suggestions?) cold air, ecu tien suspesion with edfc and such...... and I know this has been asked on this board a thousand times but has anyone experienced problems rolling 18's, and what did you do to correct?

Re: Uncle ben's....?
To me rice is things like wings on fwd cars, graphics, chrome rims, color-matching interiors, leds, etc. Ie. anthing that does not improve peformance. But, however, I do not feel as though ricing out a car is a bad thing. It's perfectly fine imho. It's just, alot of morons who have watched F&F a few too many times, think that by ricing a car up will make it fast. Their the ones that give the show-car scene a bad name. They go whipping around cars like monkeys, reving at Vipers, Corvettes, etc., acting like hardcore thugs(but if they actually got ahold of a loaded automatic, they'd blow their feet off), saying things like, "Domestics are wack!", shit like that. I see this all the time in my town & it almost makes me feel ashamed that I'm going show on my car. But, I feel that it's my car & I will do to it as I want to. They can call me a pussy all they want for not racing, but I frankly don't care.
But to get back on topic, rice is sorta a way of personalizing your car. I love dragons so I put some dragon graphics on this sides of car. Is it rice? Of course. Do I like it? Of course. Is it my car? Of course & so on. Do as you want to your car & don't ever let other people's opinions get to you.

A massive turbo slowly spooling up more and more with each "pop" sounds a bit unusual as well, for a street car. Too much fun.... Bring it on ricers

i murdered a ricer this weekend.lol. i had pulled into "the lot" and was talking to my friends, when i heard this exhaust rev. i was like who the hell is reving up there god damn rice. then i saw it was this kid that was in my auto class my senior year. made me laugh. he has like an 02 grand-am GT with ram air, well then he put an exhaust and intake on, claimed he threw a computer on and changed fuel curves, and transmission shift points, oh and by the way he has a wal-mart under car neon kit, walmart strobes, and home cut vinyl flames on his hood. anyway i finally raced him. it wasnt even funny. i had him by a car length of the line, and 4-6 lenghts when i let off...way before the 1/4 was up. we were on a seldom used, wild game infested highway. but i will give the kid his do, he thanked me for kicking his ass, and was cool about losing.
