auto tranny lock-out???
My buddy has an 96 Integra w/auto transmission. It's the kind where you have to step on the brake to shift out of park. He has to pump the brake several times while jiggling the shifter to get it to come out of park. Is the problem in the switch at the brake pedal or in the shift mechanism?? Can anyone help this Canadian out? I've just joined this forum & this is my first post.

I've received no replies to my query so I'm wondering if I should be posting this in a different Forum? Or maybe I should be on a different website altogether? I hope one of your gear-heads can help?

Re: Re: auto tranny lock-out???
i don't know if this would really help diagnose your problem, but i was thinking that if it is the shift mechanism you might be able to tell by putting your key in that slot that lets you take the shifter out of park without engaging the brakes and try to take it out of park. If it works fine i would think that it would be the switch at the brake pedal, if it still gives you problems, then it probably would be the shifter itself. This is mere speculation though, i've never had that problem with my car.

id say check the switch at the pedal first, it might not be engaging fully when the brake is depressed, could have gotten loose or something. definatly pick up a helms (www.helminc.com) for your car so they can better walk you through the troubleshoot process.
