speakers
as far as the speakers goes, heres what I did, whcih doesnt look bad at all. for the rear speakers, there are speakers that are a better speaker made specifically for that application. I found them at best buy, and there made for the 5 by 3 or whatever they are, but for ford/mazda. itll say it right on the speaker itself if you go to look at them. but thay dont offer much bass if any, well none really. and you are right, even if you dont want to cut you some of the back grille, whcih even with the speakers I just mentioned, you would haev to, just to fit the larger tweeters, but there isnt a lot of room underneath the stock speaker. but what actually works, sonce I placed 6 by 9s in mine. I haev a 93 gt hatchback. and the hatch cover, I cut out holes and placed my speakers in there with a few nuts and bolts to keep the secure since screws didnt work well. I thought they might rattle the cover, but they dont. and if your looking to replace the front speakers, you can either buy the same size speaker, or I put 6 1/2 in mine, and that plastic ocver in the front, I measured it up and eyed where the speaker would go, and I cut all the excess platic off so I now haev my speaker whcih is visible and that platic cubby thing, is cut to fit flush with the speaker. and as far as the back spekers go, if your looking to put in a subwoofer box, you should probably but the holes near the front of the cover otherwise it wont sit flat and will rest on top of the sub box.
and im not sure if your going to start buying parts for the car or not, but ill warn you in advance, if you get the rear strut bar for the car, some of the rear panels will have to be cut and then the stock hatch-cover when you lift the trunk, will hit the strut bar and soon bend and break, I choose to get 1/4 plywood and made a custom cover that was shorter in the front so it had clearance. but overall it is possible to put better, bigger aftermarket speackers in the car and have it still look quite nice, it'll just take some inginuity.
