best engine conversion

hey ppl

im lookin forward to buying a '71-'77 celica. i think they are awesome cars, but i dont think id wanna stick with the original engine, even if i get my hands on a GTV. this is a project which im gonna be workin on for a couple of years.

so i want an engine conversion... with the works. im talkin about 300hp+ at the wheels, all nessecery parts to handle that power, chip, bla bla bla. the car will be street driven, but i do want to take it to the drags for quater mile times... mayeb the circuit too

my dilema is what sort of engine to go with?

heres some i thought of:
*2.0L 4-cyl tubo intercooled (celica)
*3.0L 6-cyl turbo intercooled (supra)
*4.0L V8 supercharged maybe intercooled (sc400)
*13B twin-rotor turbo intercooled (rx7)

which engine do you think will be the best for the celica? or is there a better one?

also what advantages or disadvantages are there of every engine?...

fanx

mans got a point. unless you can rebuild the ENTIRE car around the v8...it aint happenin. i posted other btw...2.8L I-6 that would probably be an easy conversion for yours too. out of 83-85 supra. before they upped it to 3.0

my ass! a friend of mine fit a 5.0L from a vn ss commodore in his celica and it took him about a month to make the engine bay roomy enough.
EDIT: and yeah there was alot of mechancial mods and shit done to chasy and the entire car.

although it did stick out of the bonet quite a bit and he had to cut some body to make space for extra bits, it was done, and the thing cained! until a truck swiped it of the street.

rmeber i have enough money to get any one of these engines in there, i just need opinions and thoughts on which one would be the best for performance and handling.

thanx.

the rotery has the rpms to do any thing, but I would go with the supra's 2jz-gte. it was made to drag. keep in mind that it comes from a heaver car, but no mater what you do, yer gonna have to do some major fabrocation. the 4-baner and the v8 arent as good for racing(4's under powered,v8's too heavy)as the rotery and 2jz-gte.

what about the 3S-GTEs? I don't think this 4-banger is that bad

4's UNDERPOWERED, the 3SGTE is far form underpowered and that is why the TOP SECREt SUPRA used it. Lightweight and cn make incredible hp, for dragging or whatever else it will satisfy your needs. Also alot less expensive to mod compared to what esle you r talking about.

i kno just because its a 4 cylinder doesnt mean it is weak... it is an iron block and the top secret supra has a T88 on that baby!! i dont know how they got it to put out enough exhaust to spool that thing but they got it to put out just over 700hp... yeah thats a lot less than what some supras can make (1,000+ hp) but supras weighs a lot more too... just think of a lotus elise... there hella fast with only 140hp, but its cause there soo god damn light... u dont need that much hp to go fast if your light

hmmmmm... well here's a ra23 with a 1JZ-GTE, looks to be a damn tight fit!

as for the 3S-GTE how much would one cost? are there any front cuts for sale with this engine?

cheers

well i dont kno about front clips cause i dont usually check for celicas... but there are a lot of 3S-GTE rear clips from mr2's they are usually arround 3,500+ if you get a 3rd gen but you can usually get one arround $1,500 - $2,500 if its 2nd gen...

I gotta 90 Celica GTS, and I am going to swap in a 2nd gen 3SGTE which costs $1550. I hv seen GT4 front clips for $1800. The 3SGTE is an excellent engine, and I am going to mod mine so Viper Owners can pay

3sgte is gonna be the most expensive engine (4 banger) to get a hold of and put in because youll have to get a custom bellhousing and stuff. rotaries have been done and work well but cost money too. V8s from lexus work good but cost money. and a lexus V6 or toyota V6 is gonna be the cheapest of what you mentioned. a 7mgte will bolt up and be pretty cheap ($1500 for the whole swap) if you do it yourself.

300hp yo the wheels could be easily achieved with your 20R too. the internals will hold up to about 300hp at the crank possibly more. you can try and locate a 22RTE out of a pickup and itll be the easiest to bolt in and can easily make 300whp without a lot of mods.

a bored out 20R with T04 turbo, engine managment, pistons, mild cam, 22R rockers, titanium springs, balanced distributor, quality turbo manifold, full exhaust, big injectors, good EFI fuel pump, pullys and adjustable cam gears can make well over 350whp. and wouldnt cost much more than installing a stock 3sgte

check this out for a comparison: http://www.toyotaperformance.com/race_car_for_sale.htm

www.toyotaperformance.com

www.lcengineering.com

all these sites have great tech and parts for the R series engines. they have massive potential

also a turbo 18RG would be sweet but would cost big money.

a couple fast R series cars:

http://www.sdsefi.com/features/feature12.html

a 2TC powered celica (a 2TC or 3TC can be found pretty cheap and can handle 125hp shots of nitrous stock with no problems. a very popular engine in puerto rico. plenty of 9 second corollas and carinas etc out there)

i don't know how much the 2jz gte weights with all the turbo engine and all the intercooling stuff weights but for instence a 302 ford weights i believe about 400 pounds then alumimun heads so on and so on. or even an ls1. it ways less then the rotery motors let me give you a link

http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/ then go to 2nd gen rx7s. that will give you some idea... good stuff. ls1 great horsepower and lightweight. anyways it all depends on your budget.

Re: best engine conversion

I know of 3S-GTE in Ra's. Good stuff.

And why can't you fit a V8 into a Celica?
There are V8's stuffed into MR2...
