Question 1973 Pontiac Formula 455 Ram Air ?

Hi folks,

I tried to get some info about this obviously rare Firebird but didn't find much about it. The owner says that it has a 455 Ram Air engine with 313 bhp - so it's definitely not the 'standard' 455 engine (rated at 250 bhp) nor the Super Duty.

Any opinions, ideas ?

Thanks for your help.

The best thing to do is get the VIN and the tag from the cowl. That will tell you exactly what it should be.

With the VIN you could also do a PHS on the car if you are buying it, or thinking of buying it.

In 73 there were 730 Formula 455's built. And as you said, it should be 250 hp. If he was thinking SD an early version with the K cam would have yielded 310 hp. I highly doubt it though. You could have a custom grind though and get those numbers.

But as I said before get the VIN and the cowl tag info. You'll know what it really is then.

Chris
