anyone know where to get a good proce on wheel hubs/bearings?

That's going to depend on genuine GM or aftermarket. If aftermarket, what quality? Something suspension, brake related should'nt be skimped on so I would question the source of the parts when shopping. Source meaning company and country of manufacture.

What kind of parts stores you have around there ? I put one in mine a few months ago got it from NAPA for 110 dollars.If you hell bent on O.E.M. you might pay 600 at the dealer or if you check parts stores see if they sell Timken brand bearings, They make them for G.M. around 150 around here.

wheel hubs an easy install?

Not hard all, set the parking brake pop the center off the wheel now remove the axle nut. I like to coat the threads with some lubricant oil penetrating fluid........before I unscrew the axle nut.Now break the lugnuts and jack it up under the cradle or that meaty section behind it. Ya know that thing you used to call a frame. Remove the tire. I like the car in neautral at this time make sure the power is off You can now remove the caliper anchor assembly I like to hold it up with a bungee cord to the spring DO NOT let it hang by the brake hose or you'll be doing that in a few months !! Take off the rotor you will see the bearing flange and the 4 bolts that need to come out the heads are on the other side.Now If you have a little penetrating fluid spray it into the splines .Now Tap the axle straight in with a soft hammer or place a block of wood on the end you don't want to screw up the threads.Once the axle is loose now you can unplug the sensor and go for the 4 bolts.Try to find a helper to push in on the axle it helps to get to the bearing bolts its a little bit of a tight fit.You may want to wire brush the bearing flange mating surface if its rusty for a nice flat fit.Put together in reverse order but the bearing you get may or may not have 3 holes on the hub flange (where the lugnuts are) the factory ones do.Look in the inside of the rotor you'll probably see the same hole pattern with rust try to knock that crap out the rear of the rotor with a chipping hammer or put a chisel into a pair of vise grips that works o.k. too. If those rust spots are missmatched you brakes will shake like a dog shitting a peach seed !!! I think the axle nut torque is 90. Good luck

For those that have replaced, or believed they needed to replace, the hub/bearings, what were the symptoms?

I think I may need to do this. I posted my symptoms under 'weird noise' post. But to summarize, I am getting a pulse/pulsing sound on the front end, similar to that warped rotor pulse, but in this instance I am getting the pulse without hitting the brakes. Pulse varies with tire rotation - so it is in the wheel somewhere. I have a 97 Aurora with 80k on it.

Get your tires broke down and see if there's anything in them (valve stem, cap, etc.).

Hey Bustedratchet, do you recall the size of the axle nut and do you know if the flange bolts are torx?

I will be changing mine this week.
